Wouldn't that kinda be like searching someone's home without a search warrant? Are record companies going to have search warrants to look for mp3s for every person's computer who has the internet or something? I don't see how they could hack into anyone's computer.

It's a good idea on paper but I don't think it will work in practice. Millions of people download MP3's every day. It would take a lot of time for record companies to do a search of every computer and delete MP3s.

I don't think it will pass because

a) they would need a search warrant because it would violate the Constitution if they just hacked into someone's computer without a warrant. It would be just like police entering your house and taking something. A warrant explaining what they are looking for is needed to do a search in any building. Computers should be no exceptions.

b) even if they had to have search warrants it would take a lot of time getting them to search through every internet user's computer.

I think that it would be against the law and the Constitution to invade our privacy without good reason. I mean, God forbid the record people only take home 18 million dollars instead of the usual 500...(OK, so I exaggerate...)

You must be kidding, right? How can you put MP3s on a floppy when not even one MP3 file fits in a floppy. Maybe you meant CD-R or CR-W.
