View Full Version : Characters that Vanish
baronzzz 09-18-2002, 11:58 PM I'm not sure this topic has been done before.
But oh well. Characters that just vanished from a show and no reason is given... Like they just disappeared!
1. Chuck (bro on Happy Days)
2. Seven (adopted son on Married With Children)
3. Wasnt there a daughter on Family Matters that stopped being there?
4. And going way far back, I seem to remember hearing once that there was a son of the Martins on All My Children that went upstairs and never came down (a la Chuck).

1. Actually, there were 2 of them:p
3. Yeah, I remember her!! lol, but then didnt she come back after a few years? Shes a porn now I saw on the Family Matters board.
Also, who can forget Darrin from Bewitched? Well, actually he never "left", but no one seemed to noticed that Dick York was suddenly a Dick Sargeant!
And dont forget Fluffy and Tiger from the Brady Bunch!! lol.
One of the more recent "vanishings" comes from "That 70's Show."
In one of the frist episodes of seson one, Donna had a younger sister. She was only in one scene, then she was never on the show again.
parkert 09-19-2002, 11:01 AM also on 'that 70's show', what happened to erics older sister. Laurie Forman? She was a major character and then in the middle of season 3 she was just gone.......did they ever explain it? Why did she leave the show?

Supposedly she had drug problems and was asked to leave/fired.
I don't remember how they explained her absence, probably off at college/some school or she just moved out.
The '70s Show board may have a better explanation.
bus_stop 09-19-2002, 11:48 AM The Family Matters one is the one that sticks out the most in my mind. Yeah the middle child just dissapeared, I saw a thread about her on the Family Matters thread about her being a porn star or something of the like. On the same show i think the aunt just up and dissapeared too.... what do these shows think we are stupid?
dlemond 09-19-2002, 11:55 AM "Boy Meets World" pulled some nonsense with the little sister also. I forget what is was exactly, but I know at one point she was replaced by another actress.
Penny Lane 09-19-2002, 02:34 PM Ah yes!!!!!!!!!!!! The old disappearing act! I have thought of another that most of you will not know.
There was another son named Eugene on" The Big Valley". His character was not really important to the series so bye bye!
Anybody else remember poor old Eugene?

Yeah...and she was like 14 years old.
Brian Damage 09-19-2002, 03:23 PM John from Taxi was there for season 1 and just vanished after that.
Brian Damage 09-19-2002, 03:28 PM I almost forgot, Henry Jefferson(George's older brother) He appeared several times on All in the Family, but disappeared after the spinoff.

Right! I guess he "Moved on down" instead of up!
MBFTfan 09-19-2002, 04:14 PM Elyse Keaton's sister on Family Ties. There was one episode where her younger sister, Michelle, came to visit, but for the rest of the series (both before and after that episode) they always referred to her as having only a younger brother, Ned.
Also (this is kind of an obscure one) on The Torkelsons, when they moved to Seattle and the series became Almost Home, the characters of Steven Floyd and Ruth Ann were never to be seen again.
Selby disappeared from Mad About You after two seasons.

Lisa Robin Kelly was removed from the show, tabloids did refer to a drug problem. Before she left the show, her character had started beauty school. After she left the show, they referred to her a few times as if she was still living at home and Kelso once caught her in her room with another guy (though the audience never saw her). But last season, they pretty much stopped talking about her, so they might be pulling a Chuck Cunningham on us...

I remember that. When I first started reading this thread I was going to mention it.
Sadly, "Kate & Allie" pulled this twice. The first time, one of Kate and Allie's neighbors, Roger, would ocasionally stop by in the first and second seasons. He usually talked about his long-suffering from his wife. Then one day, he never came back. The second time, believe it or not, Emma, Kate's daughter, moved to college, and made occasional visits, but by the time Allie and Bob got married, she was never seen again. NOT EVEN IN THE OPENING CREDITS! I guess Ari Meyers and Sam Freed had difficulties.....unless Ari really went to college...
BulletTrain 09-19-2002, 08:14 PM Larry mondello from leave it to beaver vanished.
Sitcomwriter 09-19-2002, 10:25 PM Mr.Treger from "Friends" mysteriously dissappeared.I mean at least they explained that Mr.Hinkley or whatever his name died!
On "Mad About You," Selby was Paul's single buddy in the first season. By season two, Selby had vanished and Paul's cousin Ira was now his best bud.
It was never explained, but a few seasons later, Jamie mentions Selby, and Paul says "Yeah, whatever happened to him?"
parkert 09-20-2002, 09:52 AM good information on Laurie from that 70's show. I really like this show, it is very funny and i use to watch it all the time, but this really bothered me. If they would just say "Laurie is away at school" or "Laurie moved to california" or something I would watch it again. I don't know why it bothers me in this case so much but it really does.
Also, I heard she left because of an eating disorder. Any trueth to that. I wonder if she is ok now.....
BRING BACK LAURIE FORMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Laurie was a great character too.
I don't know any more gossip about Miss Kelly's departure, the stuff i read was from a tabloid a few years back, and I don't think there's any info on her whereabouts on the official site.
Although I don't like the idea of someone taking over the role, I thought it wold be funny if they recast the part. It would make for a great in joke, and they can even have Red and Kitty commenting on how "much Laurie has changed..."
AlexPKeatonFanboy 09-20-2002, 04:38 PM we forget Nancy, Molly, Cindy and Sue-Ann on The Facts of Life. sure Molly and Nancy popped in every now and then(actually like once each) but that was pretty much it for them
ThomasE 09-20-2002, 08:18 PM Tiffany from 227. It was like Rose did not have a daughter after season 3, Lorenzo Hollingsworth of Amen, Maggie Laugten and Millie of A Different World, Cockroach of The Cosby Show and Rodney of Family Matters. BTW Buzz and Sonia of Mama's Family. They were referred to in the "Farewell Frannie" episode but no names were ever mentioned again. SueAnne Cindy and Nancy had recurring roles on Facts Of Life but then did vanish after 1982 and then reappeared in 1986. Judy of 9 to 5. The Doctor in the original Gloria pilot.
Impressions 09-21-2002, 12:09 AM Cousin Geri from "The Facts of Life" appeared on several episodes but never knew what happend to her. Kelly Affinado from "The Facts of Life" she appeared on some of the early-days of Edna's Edibles but then never visited again. Kevin from "The Facts of Life", appeared on a couple episodes and even thought of living in the attic, but he left also.
James 09-21-2002, 01:44 AM How about Madeline Adams (Julie Condra) and Becky Slater (Crystal McKellar--yes, that's Danica's sister!) from The Wonder Years? We never did see them after ninth grade (the 1990-91 season).
webuster 09-21-2002, 04:35 PM In Ellen, for the first season their was Holly (played by Holly Fulger) and Anita (Played by Maggie Wheeler, Friends Janice) and suddenly after season 2, they're gone right away! Ellen also had a neighbour, Rick played by Greg Germann from Ally McBeal for three episodes, he was obsessed with ellen in the show.
In Married With Children- Peggy and Marcy were pregnant for a season, then suddenly they weren't!
Also after they spun off the Parkers from Moesha, Moesha's character was only ever seen in one episode, it's not liked they moved far away, Andelle was still there too. I think they could've resolved the cliffhanger in the last episode of Moesha in the parkers.
For Ellen, it seems that when These Friends of Mine changed to Ellen, the show was changed too, and became a seperate show almost, possibly new people took over:lol:

I think they revamped the show because it was so obvious that the show was a blatant copy of "Friends." Heck, they even had "Friends" in the title!
The show need to center more around Ellen, not have her be in an ensemble with a bunch of pals.
Brian Damage 09-25-2002, 06:19 PM In an early episode of Seinfeld, George mentioned that he had a brother. Yet, as the show went on, we never heard or saw his brother again.
Sitcomwriter 09-25-2002, 07:14 PM Every show pulls this at least once for instance I even did this once on my TC spinoff "That 90's Show".After I decided to revamp the show more or less womanizing Paul Pope (Robert Downey Jr.) and Jules Dean (Julia Roberts),A character I didn't know what the hell to do with left the show and it was never explained.
Sitcomwriter 09-26-2002, 07:11 PM In the 1st season of "Will and Grace" Gary Grubbs played Harlin.Harlin was dropped after being a regular (Listed in the credits) in season 1 and then appearing in 1 or 2 Season 2 episodes!
Sean Snow 09-26-2002, 08:35 PM Cindy and Chrissy Snow just disappeared of Three's Company with no further mention. Cindy's last scene had her mad at Janet after Janet insulted her. I guess Janet made Cindy so angry she left? ;)
Sitcomwriter 09-28-2002, 02:15 PM "The King Of Queens" did this twice. The 1st time with Sara,Carrie's sister in the 1st season. After that she was seen once or twice later on and then never heard from again. The 2nd time was with Stephanie,Doug's sister. She was there for half a season and then never came back.

Ha! I know I wasn't making that up!
With "That 70's Show" now in syndication, I was hoping I would be able to find the early episode with Donna's now missing sister.
Tonight, I got my wish.
Donna's sister Tina, played by Amanda Fuller appeared in only one episode, #5, Eric's Burger Job.
Whew! Now I can get some sleep...
AJ2086 09-29-2002, 06:35 PM All My Children has done this alot, the first character ever going was Bobby Martin. He went up to the atic and never came down. Now in the world of AMC fanse when a character goes a missing it is said that they "Vanished to the Martin atic". Now if only someone would make a list...
