Mathers didn't like to see Beaver taking his frustrations sitting down.
I didn't like the movie either. It made Beaver look like a loser. I also didn't like how overbearing Wally was when it came to Beaver's kids and the fight that ensued between him and the Beav. Plus, I didn't like the idea of Ward not living to see Wally become a father. And though he's a wonderful actor, I didn't like Ed Begley Jr. playing Whitey. It seemed fraudulent. I think that the spinoff series was an improvement from the revival movie.

I tend to agree with Beaver coming off as somewhat of a loser in the movie. Something like this revival, I think, is better suited to have a more positive / uplifting premise as its foundation. And again I agree about the series going on to be an improvement, generally more enjoyable.
