View Full Version : See You at the Pole
AllIWantIsYourClutch 09-18-2002, 07:13 PM Did anybody's school do that today?? If they did, did you go?? I WENT!
It was kinda funny. We didn't have a flag to "gather" around...the one in the front was by all the construction and we couldn't go there, and we couldn't get in to use the one by the football field, so they brought out this rolly basketball hoop, minus the hoop, so it was just a big pole on wheels, so we held hands around that...then eventually they put a little flag inside it....
We just sang songs and prayed and stuff....it was great.
Titania 09-18-2002, 07:43 PM I was there!
my schools done it for several years now- it was funny at the middle school because they're flagpole is on the roof....lol. the kids just stood at the side of the building. We have a flagpole at the high school tho.
About 15 people showed up and several teachers which is the most we've ever had. My french teachers son plays guitar so he comes every year and plays. We sang some, prayed, and I was later to homeroom then usual, lol. Yeah, its cool.
°Bubbly Blonde° 09-18-2002, 07:47 PM so THAT'S why those kids were gathered around the flag.......it was ended by the time I got there
Kay Scarpetta 09-18-2002, 08:40 PM Ummmmmm why? I'm lost.... some kinda holiday or something?

Actually, I dunno why. We all just go around the flag pole and held hands and prayed and sang songs...
Montana Ponine 09-18-2002, 08:52 PM Yeah my school did that... so THAT'S what that was lol I was totally clueless so I wasn't there...but there were lots others who were.
Czas na Zywiec 09-18-2002, 08:58 PM Woops, wrong board........
Anyway, I never heard of it...
Rockapella722 09-18-2002, 09:23 PM My school had that today, too. I didn't go, I was working the school store.
-*Forever*- 09-18-2002, 09:27 PM Hmm... I didn't do this. Odd.
Mr. Shy Guy 09-18-2002, 09:29 PM I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about so...no.
Krystal Lake 09-18-2002, 09:30 PM Yeah! It got me out of first period P.E class!
ISmellFine 09-18-2002, 09:33 PM We had it but I didn't go. I never do.
ABlairican Pie 09-18-2002, 10:45 PM For anyone who doesn't know what it is, See You at the Pole is a little yearly thingie where Christian kids cut classes to show their support for religious rights at school and pray for important stuff like NO GREEN MEAT LOAF IN THE CAFETERIA and SEX ED TEXTBOOKS WITH PICTURES and stuff like that there.
So you think the Pole everyone was seeing everyone else at felt
a little picked on and singled out, and wished they would've chosen See You at the Czech NEXT year???

Ummmm...close but no cigar.
obody has to cut class because it takes place before school starts. There are usually 2 in my town. One at the highscool and one at the college.
See You at The Pole is a prayer rally. Chrsitians of different religions gather and pray for the town and for the upcoming year. Anybody and everybody is invited to attend. It really is alot of fun. You get to talk, laugh, sing and pray with alot of people.
If you want more information, you can go to this (http://www.syatp.com/) website.

No. That's not what it is at all. Nice try...
Kristina 09-19-2002, 02:47 PM Isn't it against the law to do religious stuff like that in school, praying? Anyways, no we didn't but maybe it's legal in some states to do that...

Yah it is, but this isn't really the school's deal. The school didn't set it up or anything...the students handle it...it's kinda hard to explain...
Kay Scarpetta 09-19-2002, 04:06 PM A Christian rally? Oh that wouldn't be caught dead at my school..... inner city middle schools and praying do not mix.

It is not illegal if it is student lead, as the See You At The Pole rally is. Some schools have raised a stink about it in the past, but most are pretty cool about it.

~LadyJess~ 09-19-2002, 04:19 PM My school did it. They had signs around the school encouraging people to go and when I pulled into school yesterday I saw a big group of people around the flag pole. I was actually surprised to see how many people took part.
vienna waits 09-19-2002, 04:34 PM my school did it... i wasnt there but yeah they did
laceyinthesky 09-19-2002, 06:09 PM Couldn't say that I went.. or that I'd care to go. What's the point of being around a flagpole anyway? Oh wow, a flagpole! Holy peices of metal them things are, let me tell you. I don't think being around a tall pole is going to make any god hear your prayers any better, but good luck anyway.

Some guy at my church told us that our principal was against it, but there was nothing she could do about it. On the day of it, there was a dean and a few teachers there, though.

It's a patriotic thing.

Did you hear Katie and those preppy people go, "GO JUSTIN!!!" ??
JoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJo 09-19-2002, 09:07 PM Yea our school did it but it was at night... and i'm not gonna sit here and diss the peopl that went (cough cough to the two people that have.. jerks  ) but I did'nt go simply cause im' not a Christian and I had to work.. but if that's your thing, I think it's awesome that you have that kind of dedication...
and to the person (lacey something, I think?) that said, very rudely I thought, about how it was pointless to stand around a pole cause it wasn't gonna help God hear your prayers anybetter.. it's not about the pole, it's about the gathering
ABlairican Pie 09-19-2002, 09:14 PM I know basically what it is, something about religious freedom in schools, it's been a while since I followed that, but I hope no one takes offense at my jokes about praying for non-green meat loaf and for pictorial sex-ed textbooks.
ABlairican Pie 09-19-2002, 09:15 PM Because non-green meat loaf and pictorial sex-ed textbooks are no joke. I'm totally serious. We SHOULD have them.
Titania 09-19-2002, 09:21 PM maybe i can shed a little bit of light on syatp...
first of all the idea of the flagpole is simply because its something that there is at every school and its more neutral territory than if students had to meet in a teachers classroom.
its a set date so its like- students all across the country are doing that at the same time- kinda cool in my opinion.
it started awhile ago when religion was taken out of public schools. Under the equal access law religious groups can meet whenever other clubs do- but that rarely happens. see you at the pole was supposed to be- a chance for christian students to pray with people from their school and outside of classroom time so there werent any laws to deal w/.
yeah- thats the basic idea as far as i know.

laceyinthesky 09-20-2002, 03:10 PM ::sniff sniff:: Oh that's so touching. Excuse me while I wipe my tears. Why is that patriotic? Doesn't every country and many groups have flags? You could be gathered around a pole with a Nazi flag for all I know. I think if it's so patriotic it should be called "See you at the American Flag" or something like that. And no, I'm not stupid. I went to a Christian school for 13 years so I think I know as much (if not more) as anybody about religious traditions.
And for the JoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJo person, if I was one of the people you were talking about who were "dissing people," exactly what did I say that was dissing people? Did I say "All you people who gather around a flagpole are freaks?" No. I hardly consider stating what I think about the whole tradition "dissing people." If I wanted to personally attack anyone, I'd do so, not just by stating an opinion.

Would that have been I? And if it was, I certainly wasn't trying to diss anyone, I was just saying that you'd never find that at my school because well, in plain english, half the kids at my school don't exactly give two craps about praying which I kinda find... well, sad.

If you ask me, yes that was rude... oh, and by the way... don't even TRY to act bitchy towards me...
Karli, na, wasn't talking to you! Just this little lacey kid

When did I ever say that what I said wasn't rude? Yes, I'm rude. I admit it. That doesn't hurt my feelings, but, nice try. And you think this is acting bitchy? I haven't personally attacked any one person with anything I said. I think that's a very uneducated and immature thing to do. But since I'm just a "little kid" anyway, I won't call you a bitch, bitch. Oops! ::cough cough:: ;)
laceyinthesky 09-20-2002, 04:20 PM OK I was a little out of line with the bitch thing. ..but just a little, and that's the only thing I take back.
Babes_Cat 09-20-2002, 04:33 PM Ha we had one.... the first I heard of it was today. I'm just a few days late there huh? Lol.
*Marilyn Monroe* 09-20-2002, 04:40 PM Yeah, my school did it, but I just saw the flyers and didnt know what it meant. Now i do!
