View Full Version : Top Cat Is Coming To Blu-ray Charles Knox 01-18-2024, 03:00 PM https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=794199039412445&set=a.651475603684790&type=3 cd637299 03-05-2024, 10:27 AM I recorded this back when it was on TV late 1980s. As much as I respect the writing of Barry E. Blitzer on the special, how could a group of poor felines (plus Officer Dibble) move from an alley in NYC to El Lay? Blitzer was one of the original writers in the early 60s. Only one gag could really be milked out of that setting: the appearance of a “Beverly Hills cop” in one scene. [What upscale areas of NYC exist? My mind’s a blank…] It *was* updated in the sense that there were a couple of rap tunes, that Hanna & Barbera helped write. It was good also, that (almost?) all the surviving voice cast assembled to do this. cd stevea 06-28-2024, 09:34 PM This release may be prompted by Warner's "all-in" connection with MeTV Toons, and it'll probably be an improvement over the 20-year-old DVD set. According to the press release, (https://www.hometheaterforum.com/community/threads/warner-archive-collection-press-release-top-cat-the-complete-series-blu-ray.383208/) they are doing 4K scans of the original camera negatives--the old DVD release appeared to use the (full length) syndication episodes. As yet, I can't find a pre-order link. stevea 08-14-2024, 08:08 AM Top Cat (Original Series) - Blu-Ray release delayed to Sept. 17. stevea 09-01-2024, 02:53 PM Top Cat Blu Ray - Complete Series order link (https://www.amazon.com/TOP-CAT-Complete-William-Hanna/dp/B0DF4FN629?crid=2MNKV2IL5L6IF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.vrk_oBwwgolq5FRc-F3U75O2yWpY3BfgW2DnlhxGfWw7Zp8b8niUrhKnoDWniL8FXeLQ0a0D55nIvKYfHzEQmCw-HA_V_bHNBuZAvHxG_3Q.pq70gu4Q8ipuTJufZFsu7hj-Wqbz47b-WpeR5j_6CqA&dib_tag=se&keywords=top+cat+blu+ray+complete+series&qid=1725216470&sprefix=%2Caps%2C113&sr=8-1&linkCode=ll1&tag=happydaysonline3-20&linkId=e66c2e07d56b61a9719338e419b17145&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl) stevea 09-18-2024, 08:39 PM George Feltenstein shares some interesting details about the Top Cat Blu Ray release, at around 5:13 of this (https://www.theextras.tv/podcasts/blog-post-wacannjuly-070224) podcast. stevea 09-20-2024, 10:46 PM In the podcast below, George Feltenstein of Warner Archive and Jerry Beck talk extensively about this new Blu Ray set. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ljXGVu01Cc cd637299 09-21-2024, 10:55 AM Sooo…. I watched the Top Cat part of the 3-way on YouTube. So, based on what they said, we are still stuck with that one color closing credit? I thought that all 30 would be complete and converted from negatives, of whatever process was used. Even if in black-and-white, there’s no reason not to show these individual credits. Or am I misinterpreting? They did mention who worked on each episode, and at least there’s that. cd stevea 09-30-2024, 06:15 PM Sooo…. I watched the Top Cat part of the 3-way on YouTube. Make them a special feature if they don't want to put them with the episodes. Or give the viewer the option to play the episode with the original credits, even though they're in black and white. I was trying to think of why they were lost in the first place. At some point, there was an effort to cut out the Screen Gems part of the credits (this happened with all the H-B comedies around that time.) This may be why they cut into the negatives and saved only the one set of color credits. Something similar probably happened with the first two seasons of the Flintstones, but that situation is way more complicated. With the Jetsons they had the color broadcast prints for the Blu Ray set. Back in the day, they probably screwed uo those negatives cutting out Screen Gems, too. Probably the same story with Jonny Quest. cd637299 10-04-2024, 01:24 PM Well, I did a search, and on one other forum it was mentioned how some have received that Blu-Ray. From what I gather, nothing seems to be any different than the DVD as far as contents. Nothing was mentioned about the “non-Kin Platt” credits. I don’t have a Blu-Ray player, but I see no reason to get one, really. OTOH I still use VHS 📼……… cd |
