Ramirez added: "It’s wild how performative so many in Hollywood are. Even more performative than the last character I played." As Jezebel's Audra Henrichs notes, "Considering the curious past tense of 'play,' many are assuming we’ve seen the last of Che Diaz on AJLT. But the actor returned to the app on Wednesday morning with a slightly different message: 'Don’t let tabloids distract you from what’s happening in Gaza. Really nice try, though.' So...are they or aren’t they coming back??? In fairness, Ramirez’s onscreen love interest, Cynthia Nixon, hasn’t exactly been shy about her support for Palestine and she’s still expected to reprise her role—however, it’s considerably more difficult to axe one of the primary characters."

Sara Ramírez won’t be back as Che Diaz on "And Just Like That…" next season, and series star Cynthia Nixon is opening up about why.

Nixon tells our sister site Variety that Ramírez’s exit was a mutual decision between Ramírez and showrunner Michael Patrick King.



Ramírez “created such an amazing character — such a controversial character, but such an amazing character,” Nixon says, but “I think they felt, and Michael Patrick felt, that that character had run its course. They came in and shook everything up, and then the arc was completed.”

Heading into Season 3 (slated to premiere next year on Max), Miranda is single for the first time in decades, and we’ll see her explore that in the new episodes, Nixon hints: “I do feel like our show always works best when people are dating.”
