Chiefs-Dolphins as Peacock exclusive playoff game sparks (https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/chiefs-wild-card-game-peacock-taylor-swift-travis-kelce) Taylor Swift conspiracy theories. Regardless of if Swift was considered (https://brobible.com/sports/article/nfl-peacock-taylor-swift/) in this decision, it seems like it will work out for Peacock. — CDP ? The NFL plays in public stadiums funded by taxpayers dollars. The NFL engages in interstate commerce as a protected monopoly. They have agreements with all the major news outlets (CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon), no one dare question any of this, no one dare suggest the greed of the NFL be reined in. The Kansas City Chiefs are supporting a ballot initiative to continue a sales tax to be paid for by every man, woman and child in Jackson County for their ballpark:

The Jackson County Legislature voted 8-1 on Monday to put a sales tax measure on the April ballot that would help fund the ballpark. The measure, if it passes, will renew the current 3/8th-cent sales tax for 40 years, with the revenue split evenly between the Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Unparalleled greed, while Congress sits there and does nothing. At the very least a joint committee should contact Goodell this week and order all postseason games be made available on over the air networks in perpetuity. If he refuses, start hearings immediately to break the NFL monopoly up.

Peacock’s Chiefs-Dolphins game worries many fans about access issues (https://awfulannouncing.com/peacock/peacock-chiefs-dolphins-game-frustrates-older-fans-access.html)

The Kansas City Chiefs (https://www.reddit.com/r/KansasCityChiefs/comments/19621hz/game_thread_miami_dolphins_116_at_kansas_city/)-Miami Dolphins (https://www.reddit.com/r/miamidolphins/comments/19636q5/game_thread_dolphins_116_at_chiefs_116/) AFC Wild Card matchup (https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/19622b0/game_thread_miami_dolphins_116_at_kansas_city/) is expected to be one of the coldest games in NFL history, but some fans at home are worried about being frozen out in a different fashion — trying to access the game on TV.

The Saturday night game will be broadcast exclusively on NBC’s Peacock streaming service, making it the first NFL postseason game available only via streaming. Fans in the two local markets can watch the game on their NBC affiliate. Everyone else will have to watch the game on Peacock, which offers subscriptions starting at $5.99 per month.

Many fans have been complaining about the streaming-only broadcast for days. Unfortunately, they’d better get used to the situation, because this is a big part of the NFL’s future, and the future is now. The Thursday Night Football games on Amazon Prime have been a huge hit (https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/thursday-night-football-up-24-2023.html), and the NFL used the streaming-only format for Saturday night (Peacock) and international (ESPN+) games.

NBC Universal paid the NFL $110 million for one year for streaming rights to the playoff game. With that kind of revenue involved, look for more of these deals in the future (https://awfulannouncing.com/streaming/nfl-peacock-broadcast-committed-chiefs-dolphins-playoffs.html).

Yet in the meantime, many fans are frustrated. NBA legend-turned-broadcaster Charles Barkley blasted the NFL this week (https://awfulannouncing.com/peacock/charles-barkley-chiefs-dolphins-streaming-disgusted.html) for being “greedy pigs” for not allowing the game on regular broadcast TV.

U.S. Rep. Pat Ryan (https://www.reddit.com/r/miamidolphins/comments/195wz5h/house_member_pushing_on_nfl_to_ban_streaming_deals/) (D-NY) posted a message on X Friday demanding the NFL and NBC move the game (https://awfulannouncing.com/peacock/congressman-chiefs-dolphins-nbc-nfl.html): “How much more profit do Goodell and NBC need to make at the expense of hard-working Americans? I’m demanding @NFL and @NBCSports end this Peacock bait-and-switch BS and offer the Dolphins-Chiefs game on TV.”

So it’s already been well-established that many fans are unhappy, even furious, about the Peacock broadcast. A different kind of concern emerged Saturday — older fans complaining about their difficulty understanding how to access the game. Many younger fans on X noted they were having issues trying to walk their parents through the process.

If you want a video about how it's shameful that the NFL put (https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/search/?q=Peacock&type=link&cId=561bc071-f3cc-4bca-b989-d6eba5497433&iId=41b2e1ff-6499-40f5-bbd0-400828ccf7e8) a playoff game behind a paywall (https://awfulannouncing.com/peacock/nfl-fans-complain-chiefs-dolphins-exclusive-broadcast.html) and how this never should've happened... this is not that video, even if I don't agree with it. If you want a video about the fact that this game was the worst produced playoff game I've seen in my lifetime, and how many amateurish mistakes the production truck made simply because NBC doesn't have three NFL crews? Oh man, you're in for a treat.

I'm glad this flopped -- but unfortunately, lessons are never learned. As long as Peacock as we know it continues to exist, we can expect more fiascos like this in the future.

"Conspiracy"! Lol! There's nothing conspiratorial about it. They knew Swifties would likely pay the 6 bucks to watch the game. So NBC and NFL cashed in. Big whoop..

For the first time ever the NFL is airing a playoff game on a streaming service. The Chiefs and Dolphins game will only be seen on NBC's Peacock service (https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/peacock-ratings-happy-streaming-millions-audience.html), forcing fans (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLoEAIg2OYE) to either pay for the subscription or miss the game. D.A. delves into how this happened, and why the NFL made a massive miscalculation (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMrdhv3Pxtk) with its fans. When you really break down the price tag, it was just pure greed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4wg_0r6y1Y). It was also unnecessary.
