Andy and Helen go into the cave and there is a cave in. They find their way out and go back to town to change, when they hear on the radio that Barney is getting the townsfolk together to form a rescue, Helen and Andy go back to the cave so barney can rescue them. This makes absolutely no sense. Once they get out of the cave why didn't they go back to tell Barney they were out, maybe barney and thelma also went into the cave and were trapped,why did they have to flag down a truck for the ride back into town? Didnt they get to the cave with the squad car? It's hard to believe nobody saw them back in town, and how did they get back to the cave?

Agreed, this episode makes no sense at all.

This is another in a series of episodes that could be filed under the banner of "Andy Saves Barney's Morale", except this time Barney did nothing wrong. He rightfully thought Andy and Helen were trapped in the cave, how was he to know they had successfully escaped. It was Andy who should have reported back to the picnic area, and as chief safety officer for the town posted a danger do not enter sign in front of the cave!

Sounds good, definitely wish Mayberry RFD was more easily available on television.
