In The Family sketch “Brotherly Love” from The Carol Burnett Show, Mama reveals that she and Carl had a fight on the day he died. She said he started throwing things at her and told her “I’ll tend to you as soon as I come out this bathroom, missy!!!” and never came out.

Also, in the episode where Bubba drinks, Mama tells him that she’s got the scars to prove that drinking alcohol hurts people.

So, with that being said, do you think it was implied that Carl used to abuse/beat on Mama?

Then again, Mama pretty much emasculated Carl from what we saw in the Eunice movie and in flashback sequences on Mama’s Family, so maybe Mama and Carl fought each other.

Knowing Mama she seems like a woman who would not tolerate spousal abuse ! If anything it seems SHE would be the abuser ! :D But maybe they did fight each other !

I think the Family Sketches certainly alluded to it, Carl made several threats to "deal with Thelma" later, in the movie Eunice and in the flashback episode of the Family
