Ted Wass, who played the title character's father, Nick, on the NBC sitcom Blossom, chose to retire from acting after Blossom ended its run. Now, over a quarter-century later, I am left wondering, has Ted Wass retired from directing, too?

Aside from directing 18 episodes of Blossom, Mr. Wass has directed several episodes of 40 television series (mostly sitcoms). Caroline in the City, Spin City, Crumbs, Rules of Engagement, Melissa & Joey, State of Georgia, 2 Broke Girls, and Mom. His most recent directing job was on two episodes of the third and final season of the 2015 version of The Odd Couple.

It's hard to believe Ted Wass directed only one episode of The Big Bang Theory ("The Grasshopper Experiment", from its first season), yet was never invited back to direct another TBBT episode after Mayim Bialik (who played his TV daughter, the title character, on Blossom) joined it. At least Mr. Wass got to direct several episodes of Melissa & Joey, which starred his TV son on Blossom (Joey Lawrence). Most recently, Mr. Wass made a brief return to acting when he reunited with Ms. Bialik and played her father again in the second-season finale of Ms. Bialik's Call Me Kat in 2022.

I recently read on IMDB that Mr. Wass wanted to quit acting in favor of a directing career before Blossom's debut, which is the reason why he initially turned down the role of Nick Russo on the sitcom. Mr. Wass relented after Blossom's producers offered him the chance to direct some episodes of Blossom.

Any thoughts you have on the directing career of Ted Wass?
