Hey!

I'm curious if maybe Xenforo could be considered as an alternative to vBulletin. I realize the latest versions of vBulletin change format constantly. I just tried a free demo of Xenforo and it seems really clean, and works well with phones. It's the same nice format as vBulletin too!

Both are PHP based.

I realize it costs money. I did subscribe for a monthly donation which I'm sure just covers a portion.

If you decided to make changes, then I would fully support a donation-based upgrade because I don't want the website to go away. And I use my phone a lot.

With vBulletin, it would be a matter of taking the SQL database tables, I believe, and then transferring them to maintain users.

Thanks for the monthly donation. It all helps and is greatly appreciated.

We've been using vBulletin since December 2001. I think it's still the best forum software for desktop/PC. It's just not very mobile friendly.

We have some mobile/responsive themes available which may offer a better browsing experience on phones. The mobile/responsive theme is used in this Site Feedback section.

I've looked at Xenforo. I'm honestly not a big fan of it. It looks like it would be a steep learning curve to use it. It costs $195 for a self-hosted license. They currently have it on sale for $140.

We also use Photopost for our photo galleries integrated with our vBulletin. It would be a big challenge to migrate everything over to a new system.

vbulletin has worked just fine since before I have been here. I had not heard of Xenforo but am glad TJ is not switching, works well with phones probably means lousy on computers.

Oh ok! Glad to get this feedback. I had no idea. I just was hoping maybe there was something that could make the mobile experience better. But yeah, it's hard to find that!

Thanks for sharing! I completely understand! I hadn't looked into the other platform. I appreciate your help. I've seen some forums introduce paid memberships to get rid of ads. Is that a possibility?
