This is NOT another thread of which landlord was better. I think I can explain why I like the Ropers better. For the Roper's years, we laughed at their jokes. Many times they had the best jokes for each episode the way they would insult each other with jokes. For example I was just watching the episode Chrissy's New Boss. Chrissy is going to Las Vegas with her new boss. Stanley gives Chrissy money for black jack. Helen says "I did not know you gambled". Stanley replies "You know what they say......unlucky in love." Or how about when Helen gets a new perfume and Stanely says "what's that smell?" Helen responds, "its my new perfume, its called Now or Never" Stanely then replies "Well its half right and then rolls over to go to sleep.
We laughed with the Ropers. We laughed at their jokes. When Ralph Furley came along, we laughed at him. He was such a zany character that we laughed at his antics and stupidity.
So it really comes down to what you prefer. Do you like to laugh with the landlord or do you like to laugh at the landlord.
Anyone agree?

I agree with this! I loved The Ropers and wish they were brought back after their show was cancelled.
They should have guest starred a few more times over the years like Farrah did on Charlie's Angels.

Their banter and insults were hysterical. When I watch today I still laugh hardest at Stanely and Helen going at each other. Many episodes would start in their apartment. I dont remember many starting with Furley in his apartment. Being they were a team made their antics funnier. Furley needed someone to bounce off of. Both were funny but I loved laughing with one of the Ropers mocking the other one more than me laughing at Furley and his ridiculousness.

Another factor that made the show funnier with the Ropers was the difference how Roper and Furley viewed Jack. Mr Roper always had suspicions that Jack was not gay. He would then confront Jack and then we would get a humorous moment. Furley never did that. If he caught Jack in one of those situations he would just make a gay joke and remind everyone that Jack was gay. I think the Roper version worked better IMHO.

I liked both of them, but I liked the Ropers better. Especially Helen Roper, she was my fave.

Mr. Furley, all the way. I never really cared for the Ropers.

Somebody argued (https://www.reddit.com/r/threescompany/comments/1g390du/comment/ls7dkez/) that Three's Company is really a tale of two different shows. The Roper years were heavily inspired by Man About the House and take whole scripts from their British counterpart without even bothering to change the slang for to make more sense to an American audience. The Furley years were made up of mostly original stories from their own writer's room.

I liked both but I wish that the Roper's would have been returned back to the show.

It's hard to see the Ropers fitting into what became the new dynamic of the show.... even when they made a visit in Night of the Ropers, it didn't seem the same for some reason

Me. FurleyAhhhhh hello Mr Furley :)
Somebody elsewhere (https://www.reddit.com/r/sitcoms/comments/1l0p7br/comment/mvin79q/) argued that the show's dynamic really suffered when the Ropers left. Mr. Roper unlike Mr. Furley, felt like a real threat in the sense that you really buy that he would throw the the trio out if he finds out Jack isn't gay, or they don't pay rent. With Mr. Roper there, the storylines were of the trio being united against him. But without him, most of the storylines were them being divided against each other.
