I was left feeling sorta sad at the end. I WISH Bobby could have legit won at something. While it was very sweet how his siblings had a trophy made for him, and I'm sure it let him know he was loved and valued by everyone, it was more less a "sympathy trophy" even though I'm sure they meant the sentiment.

I thought this episode was even sadder than Jan's similar episode when she thought she had no talent, because if I remember that episode right, Jan finally DID find something she exceled in...painting I think? But poor Bobby :(

This was discussed on the Real Brady Bros podcast. The big question is a trophy given to you is not the same as one that is won by you. While the kids meant well and it was so sweet would it really satisfy someone who was irked at not winning a trophy?

The kids encouraged Bobby. They were mean to Jan telling their parents that Jan has no talent for tap dancing. She just started taking lessons and they were not supportive.

That's what was so bittersweet, at the end, even though Bobby acted happy, it seemed that he was holding back tears as he was accepting and making peace with the fact it just was not for him to win at anything, at least not at that time, but was choosing to be grateful he had siblings who truly cared for him and wanted to see him happy.

Being an outsider myself in my family, I always used to think we would have been best friends lol Especially the Jan in the movies, I know it was supposed to be comedy, but it truly made me sad how they treated her :(

Well, it's not the same. Obviously the value of a trophy is not the physical object, but the fact that you have earned it.

However, I don't think it's such a bad thing. "You may not be the best at anything, but we like you all the same, as you are."

Let's face it, many of us are not the best at anything.
