I subscribe to Writers Digest, and every month they run a little contest called "Your Assignment". This month's (October) is in light of Halloween--bring a deceased person, real or fictional, back from the dead to finish their unfinished business (in 75 words or less, counting the title--if you can believe that LOL!).
Naturally, I thought of Freddie in terms of his relationship to his son, and the fact of Jr.'s recent marriage. Here is what I wrote:
To my son on his wedding day
Pie, mijo,
The day you were born, I saw God.
Today you are being married,
and I want to make sure
you do it differently than I did.
You are older than I was--
a good start.
You are sober--
even better.
But if it ends--
even if she takes
your child--
remember this...
NOTHING
is worth dying
by your own hand.
Your loving father,
Freddie Prinze
