Apparently the series Roll Out was cancelled after the incident, which would have been in 1974.

I've heard the story referenced on podcasts. Though it might be a tall-tale. But the article backs up the story. Wonder what the show and his career might have been.

He still had quite a few credits after this incident.

The show would have been canceled because of low ratings. They wouldn't have picked up the back 9 episodes. According to TV Facts thread, it finished dead last (80th out of 80th) in the ratings. It aired opposite ABC's The Odd Couple on Friday nights.

No series top billing after Roll Out and axe incident. Had to be a lot of whispers of "Don't get Stu mad" and "The Axe man". Can't believe the incident helped his career.
