Being deputy of Mayberry was no easy feat!

Oh brother! If Knotts ever had a truly difficult job, like working in a factory, in a mine, in a warehouse, collecting trash, in sewers, on a construction site, as a firefighter, he would realize how good and easy he had it and never complain. What a waste of time to listen to complaints from privileged people.

I'll give Don Knotts a pass on this one. He regularly hinted at the stifling aspect of creativity being a sitcom actor. I don't think he was using today's dreaded "I'm a victim card" spiel. Just a gifted artist talking about where and how he could or couldn't thrive in his craft. Got to respect his honesty. I remember the old TAGS Donahue episode where DK repeatedly said, "We were just saying lines someone had written". I remember Betty Lynn and others saying he enjoyed writing poetry between TAGS shoots. So he had a lot of creativity in him that he expressed. The man gave so much back with his comedic genius gift.

Barney found out that being deputy was a lot easier than a selling vacume cleaners door to door.
