RIP TO A MAN WHO BROUGHT US SO MUCH ENTERTAINMENT WITH SHOWS I GREW UP WITH. THANK YOU SO MUCH...

Aaron Spelling (Born April 22, 1923 in Dallas, Texas, died June 23, 2006 in Los Angeles, California.) was an American film and television producer.

He had worked in some capacity on almost 200 productions including Starsky and Hutch, Family, Hotel, Daniel Boone, The Rookies, Charlie's Angels, The Love Boat, Vega$, Hart to Hart, Dynasty, The Colbys, T.J. Hooker, Twin Peaks, Nightingales, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, 7th Heaven, and Charmed. He also produced the NBC TV series Titans with Yasmine Bleeth in 2000 and Summerland in 2004. Certain sources list him as the world's most prolific or successful television producer.

Aaron attended Forest Avenue High School. After serving with the USAAF, he graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1945. He went to New York and found some work as an actor. He married actress Carolyn Jones, in 1953, and they moved to California. He had his break as a writer, selling his first script to Jane Wyman Theater in 1954. He went on to write for Dick Powell, Playhouse 90, and Last Man, amongst others. He joined Powell's Four Star Productions. After the death of Powell he formed Thomas-Spelling Productions with Danny Thomas. Their first hit was The Mod Squad. In 1972, he created Aaron Spelling Productions and another co-production company with Leonard Goldberg. His company went public in 1986 as Spelling Entertainment.

He divorced Jones in 1965 and in 1968 he married Carol Jean Marer (aka Candy Spelling). He was father of the actors Victoria Davey Spelling (Tori Spelling) and Randall Gene Spelling (Randy Spelling). He lived in Los Angeles; his home is the largest single-family dwelling in California.

Spelling also produced the NBC daytime soap opera Sunset Beach from 1997 to 1999.

Despite his many accomplishments in life, Spelling continued to emphasize that his favorite project of all time was 7th Heaven. The success of this "little drama that could", and the fact that it had been the WB's most-watched series since 1998, was beyond belief to him.

In January 28, 2006, he was sued by his former nurse who seeks unspecified damages for ten claims, including sexual harassment and discrimination, retaliation, sexual battery (for making "contact with the plaintiff's intimate parts"), assault, wrongful termination, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

On June 18, 2006, he suffered a stroke at his home in California and died June 23, 2006 in Los Angeles at age 83.

Words do not describe how sad I am right now. This man...he made SO many TV shows that I just plain love. I mean, just the last five years of my life have been full of me loving his shows.

Off the top of my head, I can think of:

The Rookies (Saturday afternoons on TVLand a few years ago...now THAT was the ****!)
Starsky and Hutch (how could you not like it?)
Charlie's Angels (my favorite crime/mystery/police/whatever show of ALL. TIME.)
The Love Boat (the perfect outlet for me to live out my 70s fantasies)
Fantasy Island (same as the Boat)
Hart to Hart (such a wonderful, romantic, suspenseful show)
Dynasty (nobody did guilty pleasures better than Aaron. No. Body.)
Finder of Lost Loves (one of his great short-lived shows)
Melrose Place (he basically reinvented himself with a brand new generation and served up just as much greatness)
7th Heaven (I was JUST watching a rerun on ABC Family today)
Summerland (deserved a better chance than what the WB gave it)

And he made what is, in my opinion, the BEST mini-series EVER, "Hollywood Wives." I watched the whole thing from start to finish (all 6 hours) one Saturday on WE and will watch it again every single time it comes on. It was spectacular.

And that's not counting the many, many shows of his that I'd die to see but never have. Family, Vega$, 90210 (I saw it, but never really watched), The Colbys, all of his short-lived 90s soaps. Sunset Beach, for crying out loud!

The man is a legend. A damn legend and he deserves every gallon of respect that he gets. He forever changed my TV viewing habits (for the better) and continuously produced shows that NEVER failed to entertain me. His shows were just...pure enjoyment. He didn't try to change the world, he didn't try to make people realize anything. He wanted people to come home after a long, hard day at work or school and sit down and watch some good, fun, carefree shows. Watching any of his shows is always a sure-fire way to make me smile.

Rest in peace, genius. Rest in peace.

He had an amazing career. I can't think of one other producer who has had such an effect on TV. An article stated that you would need to add the entire Dick Wolf and Jerry Bruckheimer production companies together to even come close to Spelling. At one point he was responsible for 1/3 of ABC programming - that is incredible. He will be missed.

That was very sad about Aaron Spelling. "Charmed" is still my favorite show with Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs. I remember since I was a kid, I've seen "Charlie's Angels", "The Love Boat", "Hart to Hart" and many others. By the time I get to my later years, "Summerland" was still my favorite show with "Full House" star Lori Loughlin and Jesse McCartney. Aaron Spelling did his best. That was very, very sad news to all the TV world. He created so much drama. I do missed him. The last show that Aaron did was "Charmed". That was it. RIP.:(

This is sad news for "Charmed" fans. Over the weekend, I've heard the news that Aaron Spelling, the executive producer for so many hit TV shows has died. He was 83 years old. I found this article from the Daily News:

TV icon Spelling dead at 83

BY MICHELLE CARUSO
DAILY NEWS WEST COAST BUREAU CHIEF

LOS ANGELES - Legendary TV producer Aaron Spelling, who created trend-setting hits including "The Mod Squad," "Charlie's Angels," "Dynasty" and "Beverly Hills, 90210" during his 50-year-long career, died yesterday. He was 83.

The fabulously wealthy entertainment mogul, father of actress Tori Spelling, died at home, said his publicist, Kevin Sasaki. Spelling had battled ill health since 2001, when he developed oral cancer, the result of his longtime pipe smoking. He suffered a stroke Sunday at his Beverly Hills home, a sprawling, 123-room mansion known as The Manor that he built on a 6-acre estate once owned by entertainer Bing Crosby.

Word of his death sent sadness through Tinseltown, where he had helped shape the careers of top-shelf starlets like Heather Locklear, who starred in multiple Spelling hits including "Dynasty," "T.J. Hooker" and "Melrose Place," and Farrah Fawcett, whose fluffy, winged coiffure on "Charlie's Angels" sparked a nationwide fad.

Spelling, born in Dallas, came to Hollywood in 1953. Working first as an actor, he took small parts on TV shows, including "I Love Lucy."

But he soon gravitated toward his first love - writing - and penned episodes for Dick Powell's "Zane Grey Theater," "Playhouse 90," "Wagon Train" and "The Jane Wyman Theater."

During this time, he wed his first wife, actress Carolyn Jones, who later played Morticia on "The Addams Family." They divorced in 1965.

His second marriage, to Candy, would last 38 years. The couple had two children: Tori, who rose to fame playing Donna on her father's wildly popular "Beverly Hills, 90210" and now has a reality show on VH1, and Randy, who appeared on "90210" and "Malibu Shores."

Spelling's star began to rise when he paired with entertainer Danny Thomas in the 1960s to produce "The Danny Thomas Show," "The Guns of Will Sonnet" and the groundbreaking "The Mod Squad," which won the hearts of restless young viewers with its offbeat multiracial cop trio played by Peggy Lipton, Clarence Williams 3rd and Michael Cole.

"I was very proud of that show. It's the first time an African-American guy kissed a white girl [on network television]," Spelling once said. His color barrier-breaking stories won him six NAACP Image Awards during his career.

But it was Spelling's second pairing, with producer Leonard Goldberg from 1972 to 1977, that sent him to TV's stratosphere with top-rated shows "The Rookies," "Starsky & Hutch," "Hart to Hart" and "Charlie's Angels," all of which tapped youth-friendly themes.

By the 1980s, Spelling, who founded Spelling Entertainment and Spelling Television, was on his own and king of the airwaves, with nine series airing on ABC in that decade: "Charlie's Angels," "Family," "The Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Dynasty," "Hotel," "Finder of Lost Loves," "The Colbys" and "Nightingales."

The network was jokingly called "Aaron's Broadcasting Company."

Spelling's soaring success continued in the '90s and this decade, with the glitz-heavy "90210," "Melrose Place" and "Models Inc.," the witchcraft-themed "Charmed" and the Christian family-friendly "7th Heaven."

RIP - Aaron Spelling :crying:

Since "7th Heaven" was renewed, I think that'd be considered his last show. Definitely fitting, since it was his favorite of all of his shows.

...started out as a "bit player" in TV and motion pictures in the mid-'50s, appearing on "I LOVE LUCY", "DRAGNET", and "GUNSMOKE", until Dick Powell gave him a chance to write and produce various series for Four Star Television (starting with "DICK POWELL'S ZANE GREY THEATER" and ending with "HONEY WEST" and "THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS SHOW") during a ten year period. Aaron then entered into a production partnership with Danny Thomas ("RANGO", "THE GUNS OF WILL SONNETT", "THE DANNY THOMAS HOUR" and "THE MOD SQUAD")...and was then paired with Leonard Goldberg (starting with various ABC "MOVIE OF THE WEEK" projects and "THE ROOKIES", and ending with "T.J. HOOKER") before he set up his own production company (too many shows to list here!) and continued to produce TV series virtually to the time of his death.

The only thing he couldn't produce was a successful situation comedy.

Which is funny, because most of his dramas had high amounts of comedy thrown in, especially the 90s stuff.

...Aaron Spelling's talents was "discovered" by Dick Powell in 1956, and was eventually given an exclusive contract to write and produce for Powell's Four Star Television company. By the time Powell had died of cancer in 1963, Aaron was just about running the company, having his greatest success with "BURKE'S LAW". However, after the disappointment of "HONEY WEST" and "THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS SHOW" (and a change of management), Spelling left Four Star in 1966 to begin his partnership with Danny Thomas
{and by the way, it was "THE GUNS OF WILL SONNETT". "THE DANNY THOMAS HOUR" was an unsuccessful anthology format tailored for Danny in the 1967-'68 season}.

Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg entered into their production partnership about 1970, when they began producing several of ABC's 90 minute "MOVIE OF THE WEEK" features (around the time Spelling and Danny Thomas amicably dissolved their professional relationship). Their last collaboration was "T.J. HOOKER", which Goldberg produced an additional season for CBS' late-night schedule in 1985-'86.

1984 was a pivotal year for Spelling, as his "golden touch" started to fade;
"GLITTER"- a highly anticipated series in the tradition of "THE LOVE BOAT" and "HOTEL"- was cancelled after three weeks on the air (the remaining episodes were burned off on ABC's late night schedule in December 1985), and "FINDER OF LOST LOVES" didn't make it to a second season. "MACGRUDER AND LOUD", a mid-season replacement about secretly married cops on the 'LSPD' force, went on ABC in January of 1985, and was outdistanced by the show that followed it on Tuesdays..."MOONLIGHTING". That's what the network executives seemed to want, and were gravely disappointed when all Aaron seemed to be able to come up the following season were "SUNSET BEAT" and that "DYNASTY" spinoff, "THE COLBYS"- neither of which made much of an impact, and "THE LOVE BOAT" went off at the end of the 1985-'86 season. When the last of Spelling's ABC series, "DYNASTY", was cancelled in 1989, the network had dissolved their exclusive agreement for Spelling to produce shows for them. Aaron then discovered that the pilots he had produced for CBS weren't wanted, either, as was his proposed revival of "CHARLIE'S ANGELS" for the Fox network.
Personally and professionally, he went into a "deep funk", feeling he was "washed up" in the industry.....

....that is, until Fox bought "BEVERLY HILLS 90210" in 1990....and Spelling's "empire" towered again, and continued to be a powerful force in TV until his death. "7th HEAVEN", the last series his organization produced, will continue on the CW network this fall---without Spelling's guidance.
