View Full Version : Potsie should have left the show much sooner than 1983
TVFactFan 09-13-2002, 09:13 PM i thought that Potsie stayed to the end of the show but left in 83-Actually he should have left a little sooner because his character was beginning to be pointless. No more Richie or Ralph-Did he have steady girlfriend on the show by 82, 83? Does anyone know what the producers decided to do with the Potsie character after 1980?
*Melissa* 09-14-2002, 08:53 AM I agree, he should have left sooner. He was one of only two cast members to have been with the show since "Love, American Style" all the way to the end. So what did they decide to do with Potsie after Richie and Ralph left? They hid him in the background. He had some occassional appearances, but he didn't have much of a starring role. Granted, they kept him in the opening credits, but it was like he wasn't there. You'd think they would have made Anson one of the stars since he was there so long instead of bringing Joannie and Chachi into the spotlight. His character wasn't developed much past 1980, and I for one think that is a great disappointment.

But if you think about it, the Potsie character really did not shine too much because it was mostly the Fonz, Richie and Ralph. The Fonz was known for AYAAH!, Richie was known for that laugh, Ralph was the comedian, But was Potsie known for? I think those three characters help kept his role on the show but it showed thathe was not importamt once his two pals left. And fonzie would not have looked right hanging with just potsie.
DetectiveGriffin 09-14-2002, 12:25 PM Potsie's a stud. Im thinking about capturing the audio from the eps he sings on and making a potsies greatest hits album. Im thinking that everytime i drive by a school or the mall, ill blare it real loud to drown out their n sync tunes.

Yes i agree with you-He should have left with Richie and Ralph in 1980 because without them there was no point for Potsie's Character
Cactus Jack 09-14-2002, 04:32 PM Yeah, Potsie's charcater was not seen much in the last 4 seasons as much as he was on the Richie and Ralph seasons.
Stormtracker TF 09-14-2002, 04:36 PM Hey Look I Just Made It!

Well i haven;t really Happy Days after Richie and Ralph left the show, but I wanted to ask you how was the Potsie character used on the show after 1980?
Stormtracker TF 09-14-2002, 04:52 PM I Dunno! Heres An Even Better One!
I Know, I Know 62 Hit's Is An OUTRAGEOUS Amount Of Hits! But They're An OUTRAGEOUS Group!
baronzzz 09-14-2002, 04:55 PM Maybe Anson Williams hung around to learn about directing. It was probably a great place for him to learn about it. Anyone know if he directed any HD episodes. He's a top director nowadays, Ive heard.
I agree about the Potsie character. He had no storyline and his character turned into a dumbbell (which he was not in the first few seasons!). It's painful to watch him in those later episodes.

I noticed that when I saw that last episode-Do you know why Ralph and Potsie did not return? I mean since they both were seen on Happy Days in 83-i found it kind of wacky that they did not return for the Joanie and chachi wedding episode.
Stormtracker TF 09-14-2002, 08:42 PM I'm Not Sure Why, I Only Wish They Would Have. Joanie And Chachi Had A Nice Wedding But One Thing Was Missing, One Thing: Ralph And Potsie :crying:

Wouldn't that be two things, though? Ralph AND Potsie? j/k.
DetectiveGriffin 09-20-2002, 05:09 PM whenever i get my capture card fixed, i am so going to start making this cd.
ill have to circulate it around so everybody can make there own copies, lol.
ThomasE 09-21-2002, 01:36 AM Although sources say that he left in 1983, he actually did leave in 1984. I have seen eps with him in them from 1984.

I have to agree with the Fonz, it does seem like the producers made Potsie extra NERDY.
