To me, it seems like when I watch television and movies they pretty much ignore relationships between cousins. When you think about it, we see relationships between siblings, spouses, parent/child, and friends. Sometimes we even see niece/nephew and aunt/uncle, and grandparent/grandchild.....but I think it's very rare to see a strong relationship between cousins. I wonder why.

But I was talking about a strong relationship between cousins. We never saw Cindy and Chrissy on the show together. So, therefore, we didn't see a relationship between them. And Cousin Oliver was just on one episode. Also, movies rarely show a strong relationship between cousins.

Actually, what irritates more is when the main family is ignored like the kids on Saved By the Bell who get around everywhere, where we rarely ever saw or heard about the parents, or kids like Judy being deleted from the family.

I think you make a good point, although others have posted some good examples of cousin relationships on sitcoms. I guess for whatever reason Hollywood writers and producers just aren't interested in showing those relationships, which is kind of sad because I'm sure most of us were close with some cousins growing up, assuming we had any of course. I know 2 brothers who don't have any cousins (or uncles and aunts) on either side of their family because both of their parents was an only child.

Watching King of Queens right now and adding Danny from King of Queens.

He was added into the series as Doug's cousin.

He is annoying to Doug and remains throughout the series after Season 2 in the ensemble. I think it was a realistic relationship, as adults become irritated with their cousins' presence.

He had more of a role than Doug's sister, played by Ricki Lake, or Carrie's sister, who was written off of the show after a few episodes in season one.

Pam on "The Cosby Show" was always underrated by the fanbase.

The Waltons was pretty strong about extended family being given prominent roles in some storylines. The ones that come to mind immediately are the crude cousin coming to blows with John-Boy, calling him a "pantywaist" (really unsettling stuff!), and the elderly Walton relative who refuses to give up her home in the mountains and relocate to allow for development.
