View Full Version : the new Bob Crane murder movie
Anybody making plans to see the film "Auto-Focus"? Its about the life and murder of Bob Crane ( sure its more about the murder than Hogan's Heroes).
The film stars Greg Kinnear ( sp? ) as Crane and its due out I believe in November.
Reading bits and pieces about this film , I wonder what the family thinks about this? Or even if members of Hogan's Heros will be involved?
Or is this in the same ballpark as the Lucy-Desi tv movie that came out years ago that Lucie Arnaz bashed?

Bob Crane's oldest son is in the movie. His youngest was barred from taking part and he's mad.
I think it's coming out in October.
And I'll probably wait until it comes on Pay-Per-View. :)

Yes he's mad alright, it has to do with the inaccurate portayal of his own father, eg. him being a bad father, filming naked women having sex with him without their consent...you know the trivial stuff...Ah! no worry it's just a 'film', right?
You'll find an interesting interview with Scotty Crane and much more at this Website,

By the way, I'm saving my money for the Kinnear & Crowe Special. :D

Cute message title. :D
So it portrays him as a bad father, huh? Just because of the sex thing?

"Let's play the Family Feud!"
"Auto Focus doesn't pretend to be a biopic. It isn't interested in showing how much time Bob Crane spent with his kids...If you want the biopic treatment on Bob Crane, read the book or watch E! True Hollywood Story or A&E Biography..." - 'Bob Crane Jr.', August 7, 2002
SonyPictures - "Auto Focus" (www.sonyclassics.com/autofocus/main.html)
Note, 'Bob Crane Jr.' is the one involved with this film. By the way, I have no idea how that photo got there. :D

LOL!!!
Interesting quote by Bob Jr. Most kids it seems to me wouldn't want to slander their folks, but perhaps he's bitter.
Pitooey 09-16-2002, 11:31 PM Please don't get mad at me.....................
But,
I heard that the reason his son is MAD is because in the movie they are trying to insinuate that his father is also gay. That's what made him mad.

Really? Wow. They interviewed him on Entertainment Tonight but I can't remember what he said.

FIRING BACK AT SON OF 'HOGAN'
DIRECTOR Paul Schrader is battling back against Scotty Crane, the son of tragic "Hogan's Heroes" star Bob Crane, who has blasted Schrader's movie "Auto-Focus."
Scotty first attacked Schrader and "Auto-Focus," which he says misrepresents his dad and contains several inaccuracies, on PAGE SIX last July.
In tomorrow's Times Sunday Magazine, Schrader takes aim at Scotty's seamy porn Web site bobcrane.com, a repository of Bob Crane's prodigious porn collection that features close-up shots of sex acts and women exposing themselves to Bob's camera. The site also hawks T-shirts picturing Bob Crane having sex.
"Scotty has a couple of things on his mind that never get off his mind," Schrader chuckles to writer Lynn Hirschberg. "One of them is the size of his father's penis. But what can you expect! Bob once took Bobby [Crane's other son] to the opening of 'Deep Throat' after a baseball game. He acted like that was the thing to do."
Scotty's half-brother Bobby says he has no problem with "Auto-Focus." "My dad would have been thrilled to have been involved with someone like Schrader," he told the Times. "I saw 'Taxi Driver' with my father, and he was blown away. He tried to meet with [Martin] Scorsese for 'New York, New York,' but he was Hogan, and Scorsese wasn't interested."
Schrader - who wrote "Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull" and "The Last Temptation of Christ" - says that having a murdered sex addict for a dad has left Bob Crane's sons angry and confused.
"I could never have dreamed these people up," Schrader says. "Actually, I don't think 'dream' is the word. 'Fantasize' is more accurate. Wouldn't it be great if there were these kinds of characters for every movie? Bad behavior is so compelling."
Meanwhile, with "Auto-Focus" joining biopics of game show creator Chuck Barris ("A Dangerous Mind") and club kid killer Michael Alig ("Party Monster)," Hollywood seems high on telling the tawdry stories of curious characters.
"Auto-Focus" producers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who wrote "Ed Wood," "The People vs. Larry Flynt" and the Andy Kaufman bio "Man on the Moon," say they get pitched every day to make movies about oddball celebs.
"Tiny Tim is a frequent idea," Karaszewski says. "Leif Garrett . . . the pinup, Bettie Page, we've been offered 50 times.
"We're developing a script about Billy Carter. And Liberace. Because of 'Behind the Music' and the E! Channel, people recognize source material where they wouldn't have 10 years ago. But there has to be a point of view. I mean, Phyllis Diller? There's no film in Phyllis Diller."
If anyone gets the chance, pick up this week's New York Times.
The Nyt Magazine has a great story about the movie, and the whole behind the scenes battle between the Crane brothers, who are actually half brothers.
Man, it is one twisted affair...
