Dutch actress Katja Herbers turns 40 today. Herbers was born in Amsterdam, but spent a lot as a girl of time traveling with her parents, both musicians. She grew up speaking three languages.
While attending the Academy of Theater and Dance in Amsterdam, Herbers made her screen debut in the Dutch family film Peter Bell. After graduating, she began working regularly on stage in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. She appeared in productions of Marlowe’s Edward II and Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband, and was highly praised for her performance as Irina in Chekhov’s Three Sisters.
Herbers also put together an extensive filmography in Dutch film and television. American audiences first began to know her in 2014, when she began starring on WGN America’s Manhattan as Helen Prins. She went on to multi-episode stints on The Americans and The Leftovers. Fans of Westworld will remember her from season 2 as Emily Grace.
Last fall, Herbers began starring as forensic psychologist Kristen Bouchard, on the CBS supernatural mystery series Evil. The series has been renewed for a second season.
