Babylon 5 Retrospective/Review - Part 1: In the late 1980s science fiction on the small screen was dominated by the pop culture sensation Star Trek. With Star Trek The Next Generation securing the franchises legacy for decades to come, there was seemingly no room for anything else. That is until writer/producer J.Michael Straczynski and producers John Copeland and Douglass Netter created Babylon 5. The epic space opera was one of the first real attempts at creating a television novel with serialized long form storytelling. While it never reached the heights of popularity as Star Trek, its impact on the genre and the TV landscape in general cannot be understated.

Babylon 5 Retrospective/Review - Part 2: Babylon 5 created by J Michael Straczynski, with its pioneering production techniques and groundbreaking longform storytelling had carved out its own space in pop culture, stepping outside of the shadow of the dominant Star Trek. However it looked as though the show would come to an abrupt end after its fourth season with the closure of its home network PTEN. That is until a last minute renewal by TNT. The resulting era of the nascent franchise would be one of the most troublesome behind the scenes and one of the most controversial for fans.
