Have you ever wanted to buy a music album just to hear one of your favorite artist's songs without buying the artist's album just for that song alone? If you were that kind of person K-Tel Records was for you. From the 70's to the 80's K-Tel Records sold dozens of records each with their own commercials and each album had it's own title and commercials. Some of K-Tel Records and commercials were Souled Out which was a R&B collection of soul classics from the 70's Chartoppers which was a collection of 80's hits from stars such as Huey Lewis And The News Tina Turner El Debarge Rod Stewart The Police and other singers and Music Explosion with singers such as Mac Davis Henry Gross Hamilton Joe Frank And Reynolds and more artists and remix albums featuring never before released 80's dance remixes of 80's hits. With albums sold at drug stores as well as music stores K-Tel Records was one of the biggest record labels for greatest hits albums. While music collections where their strong suit K-Tel Records also released greatest hits albums of artists like Glen Campbell John Denver The Marshall Tucker Band and other singers too. However once the 90's were ending and with album collections such as Arista's Totally Hits and Totally Country series and the popular Now That's What I Call Music series making it's debut in 1998 K-Tel Records filed for bankruptcy and went broke in 2002. And when it happened people as well as music lovers referred to K-Tel's demise as what legendary singer Don McLean said in the beginning of the classic song American Pie as "the day the music died" Believe it or not I actually own a K-Tel Record and it's a Tina Turner/Gloria Gaynor album and it's in the box of music that i'm currently listening to. But K-Tel Records commercials are fun to look at as we look back at the 70's and 80's music today
