I naturally assumed that Sabrina Duncan (Kate Jackson) was the de facto "lead":

Season 1

The '70s TV show Charlie's Angels was a staple in many American households as viewers tuned in to watch the three women take down bad guys. Farrah Fawcett was one of the angels, Jill Munroe. The show's three stars, Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith, had their careers take off until Fawcett decided to leave Charlie's Angels after only the first season. Fawcett was the most famous angel, but her pay did not reflect that. She also wasn't happy with how her character was portrayed in the series, so she left to focus more on her other interests and her marriage (via The Washington Post (https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1977/01/05/farrah-fawcett-majors-i-just-laugh/8171821f-1d92-4e3d-8654-d954d237db13/)).

While it seemed like no one could fill her shoes at the time of Fawcett's departure, the perfect replacement was found in Cheryl Ladd, who took on the role of Kris Munroe. Charlie's Angels continued for four more seasons and ended in season 5. However, season 1 wasn't the last time Fawcett would appear on the show. She made several guest appearances until it was time to say goodbye to Charlie's Angels.
