McGowan, who reunited with 'Charmed' costar Holly Marie Combs at 90s Con, moved to Tulum in 2020 and became a permanent resident the next year

After years in the public eye, Rose McGowan is opening up about the "healing" experience of moving to Mexico.

During this weekend's 90s Con in Tampa, Fla. — which went on in compliance with certain SAG-AFTRA guidelines amid the ongoing union strikes — the actress said she's found her new home to be "just a much kinder environment."

"Well, my father lived on the west coast of Mexico for 35 years," McGowan explained. "And he always said, 'When you need healing, go to Mexico.'"

She moved to Tulum in early 2020, becoming a permanent resident the following year.

McGowan added, "I feel bad for the propaganda that the U.S. perpetrates against Mexico and other Latin American countries and other countries in general."

The actress, who said she tends to "lose little objects all the time," explained that she's had her "wallet returned four times" as well as her phone given back to her while living in Mexico.

Though she noted that "bad things happen everywhere," she pointed out: "There's never been a school shooting [in Mexico], there's never been a mass shooting."

Seven years after her last featured film role in 2017's The Sound, the actress/director said, "I don't care if I ever do a movie again."

McGowan was joined for Sunday's panel by her Charmed onscreen sister Holly Marie Combs, who affectionately said that her former co-star "tries" to disappear but "I don't let her."

Although Charmed alum Shannen Doherty was also present at 90s Con, she was busy with her Beverly Hills, 90210 co-stars at a nearby fan photo opp and their own panel afterward.

Moderator Clare Kramer said Doherty "wanted to be here," as Combs added: "She would be here but she's very busy with 90210 right now."

Charmed ran for eight seasons on The WB from 1998 to 2006 and was all about the world-saving powers of the three Halliwell sisters.

Combs starred as Piper Halliwell, originally the middle sister, while McGowan joined in Season 4 as the long-lost youngest half-sister Paige, who was added to the show following the death of oldest sister Prue (Doherty) in the prior season.

Doherty left after reported issues on set with costar Alyssa Milano, who played original youngest sister Phoebe. Kaley Cuoco joined the eighth and final season as witch-in-training Billie Jenkins.

Charmed is available to stream on Prime Video and Peacock.

90s Con reunited casts from television shows such as Boy Meets World, Full House, Family Matters and more.
