View Full Version : My Favorite Short Lived Sitcoms
Adamantium 09-11-2002, 05:28 PM It seems like all the shows I watch in their original run get canceled within the season. Here's a list of my favorite short lived series:
1. George & Leo (1997-1998) 22 episodes
2. The Fugitive (2000-2001) 22 episodes
3. DAG (2000-2001) 17 episodes
4. Two of a Kind (1998-1999) 22 episodes
5. Cursed/The Weber Show (2000-2001) 17 episdes
6. The Ellen Show (2001-2002) 18 episodes
7. Thieves (2001) 8 episodes
8. The Tick (2001) 9 episodes
I'm sure there are others, but I can't remember right now.
Sammy M. Malone 09-11-2002, 10:17 PM wow is that really how long two of a kind lasted? i thought it went longer..
peter may 09-12-2002, 06:22 AM I always loved Jenny McCarthy's sitcom "JENNY" from 1997 - 1998 it also starred Heather Paige Kent. It wasnt that poplar but I thought it was pretty good.
17 episodes made was not enough!!
LucyFan 09-22-2002, 02:52 AM Here are my favorites:
The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour (1957-1960) 13 episodes
My Brother and Me (1993/1994?) 13 episodes I think
Baby Talk (1991-1992) 22 episodes I think
The Brady Brides (1981) 10 episodes
Life With Lucy (1986) 13 episodes
Brian Damage 09-23-2002, 01:59 PM Mine are:
Greg the Bunny
Titus
Clerks
Family Guy
That 80's Show
peter may 09-23-2002, 02:11 PM JESSE was an excellent show aswell, good job I have all episodes on tape as it is not shown anymore.
webuster 09-24-2002, 03:48 PM I thought Bette and The Ellen Show were good:talk:
Christopher 09-25-2002, 08:40 PM POPULAR!!!!
The Ellen Show
Bette
Jesse
That 80's Show
Phyllis
Grosse Pointe
The Golden Palace
GeorgeCTX 09-27-2002, 05:17 PM Does anyone else remember the horrible short lived sitcom "When the Whistle Blows". The title was partly correct.
Mathazar 10-02-2002, 06:04 PM I'd love to find some episodes of "The Good Life" where Drew Carey played a supporting roll. The show was a vehicle for underrated comedian John Camponera and it was on in the early 90's for less than a dozen episodes. Anyone have any tapes of this they'd like to trade?
I also liked "Life's Work" from around 1997. This had Michael O`Keefe (Caddyshack) and cutie Lisa Ann Walker. It also had Larry Miller as her boss....Larry Miller cracks me up.
Still pissed off that it was cancelled,
The best new show to premiere last Fall,
"Undeclared."

Hello Larry
My Least Favorites:
Gloria [Good acting and plots, but unfunny writing]
Tucker [Stupid humor, lifeless writing]
Danny [Good supporting cast, terribly writing]
The Bradys [Marcia Gets Drunk episode is fun, but the rest are dumb and totally mindless]
Inside Schwartz [Almost commit suicide while watching this piece of crap]

Oh I love that episode. I have it on tape. I think The Bradys is the best spin off ever of The Brady Bunch.
Gale Miller 10-09-2002, 02:26 PM Holmes and Yoyo (1976)
Joe and Sons (1975)
Rhythm and Blues (1991?)
The Tony Randall Show (1976-77)
Sam Malone 10-10-2002, 03:54 PM Life with Lucy... definitely... As for The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour, yeah, it was 13 episodes, sporadically over 3 seasons, though... and never pulled a rating below #10 its entire run...
Does anyone have:
Holmes and Yoyo
Hell Town
The Ellen Show
The Tony Randall Show
?¿?¿?¿?

callmetootie 10-10-2002, 04:08 PM LWL really was an excellent sitcom which was put into a terribly timeslot. It could've been as successful as her other shows, but that timeslot was just wicked. I'm even surprised that LWL received ratings in the 40's and 50's....I would've expected even worse.
Adamantium 11-13-2002, 12:58 AM I can now add "Bram and Alice" to my original list.

Bram And Alice wasn't nearly as bad as the critics said it was. It needed some work, I'll grant you that, but they never had the chance.
There are other shows that premiered that were far worse..

Of course the number one and two cancellation crimes are Freaks and Geeks and My So called life, but in terms of sitcoms im surprised and disapointed to see that no one's mentioned Flying Blind, original, witty and well written.

Peter once mentioned how unless it was changed to a variety show, he didn't want to return. I think were all had their egos at that time. Which I guess that happens to celebrities. They all seem pretty cool now, looking back at their 2-year run on TV.
BotchieB 05-03-2003, 03:30 PM I was totally getting into "Undeclared" and "DAG, as well, and they went and cancelled them.
"Freaks and Geeks" was good too.
Did they cancel "Andy Richter controls the universe?" I seen a few episodes in the beginning of the season, but with all the reality shows on Fox, it doesn't seem to have a consistent run.
"Sports Night" was a great show, even though it lasted for more than 1 season. They play those episodes on Comedy Central.

Andy Richter Controls the Universe came in March 2002. Then after six episodes FOX cancelled it. Then they brought it back in January 2003. They quit showing it, and say they haven't made a decision yet. However, two of it's star's (Andy Richter, Paget Brewster) have already found other sitcoms. I'll never get into any shows on FOX again. They'll just cancel it. They always have.

webuster 09-29-2003, 02:02 PM I watched 'Maybe it's Me' during summer, cos all the other 'teen sitcoms' were absolute rubbish- Clarissa was probably the best teen sitcom.
The Ellen Show should never have been cancelled- I don't think it did too bad ratings wise (the christmas ep with Mary Tyler Moore did brilliantly- but they kept using old mtm alumni- apart from Cloris Leachman were any of the writers/directors involved in MTM as well?) - it was only 18 episodes it ran for (someone said 19 earlier-if there's another ep I mightn't have heard about tell me! I'm a big Ellen fan!!!)
Popular- I used to hate it when it was first being ran on tv but now it's been cancelled I watch it every Sunday (in the UK it did extremely well in it's first run so it's been repeated on many different channels since cancellation).
The In-Laws- Was Fantastic! I know I go easy on sitcoms anyway (apart from Bram and Alice) but this really was THE best- I wish I'd taped it, cos it was my fave show on tv (after I taped all of ellen and third rock). Marlene was the funniest in that show, but I loved it!
The Trouble With Normal- hilarious, well, at least Larry Joe Campbell's still working on According to Jim (my now favourite show on tv).

Tracy Ullman Show
Hermans Head
Bosom Buddies
The Ropers(and then they weren't allowed to return to TC!)
soup4kittys 10-11-2003, 04:16 AM My 5 favorite for short -lived sitcom in order:
1. Bob (2 seasons)
2. Working
3. George and Leo
4. Something Wilder
5. Getting By (Guilty Pleasure)
P.S--I'd like to include "Freaks and Geeks" however, I don't know if that would qualify as a sitcom, but most certainly a TRUE television classic.
