This is the Matthew “Manu” Perry that I knew, the late 80’s Matthew. My favorite era. I wish I had personal photos handy but instead I can share with you our long ago friendship and how special he was. In 1987, I did an episode of a show called Second Chance (https://themessenger.com/entertainment/matthew-perry-sitcoms-tv-hidden-gems) (revamped to Boys Will Be Boys) that he starred in. We became fast friends and a few years later went on a handful of dates together. Some of my most fun! He took me to my first ever Dodgers game, a random Bingo night with a church full of sweet old ladies, a spontaneous pit stop at a tiny local carnival where I made him go on the Zipper ride with me and I’ve never laughed so hard. He was utterly terrified! I beat him badly one night in a game of Scrabble to which he retorted, “BE meaner!” (I actually made him say this all the time after that 😂.) Matthew was Chandler, Chandler was Matthew. He was insanely funny, smart, charming, and everyone who knew him absolutely adored him. Including me. We lost touch many years ago but I’ll never forget our short lived memories. He was the actual best. My heart goes out to his family and all who loved him. He really was so special and will be dearly missed.
