DarleneIllyria 09-10-2002, 11:45 PM This is going to be one of my shorter posts. Everybody stay safe tomorrow.
ABlairican Pie 09-10-2002, 11:48 PM It's so hard to imagine it's been one year allready. It was practically yesterday. I remember that day so well (and who doesn't??), I walk into the local McDonald's to grab goodies before commuting to work that morning, and I hear people abuzz with conversations, something had happened, had no idea what. So I ask the clerk what was going on and she tells me that hijacked planes had flown into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. I couldn't believe it--WERE WE AT WAR?? WHAT WAS GOING ON?? It was almost impossible to imagine. I tuned on my walkman to hear the broadcast on various stations and tried to picture what was going on. Strange how I never knew that the WTC was actually two twin towers--until the moment that both of them went down. I later saw pictures of masses of people struggling to get out of the burning buildings, massed at the windows--and to think that they perished when they collapsed made me depressed for days. All these helpless people--what had they done to deserve this??
I am hoping that President Bush is doing all he can to bring Osama bin Laden to justice. I don't want him brought back dead, that would make him a martyr in the eyes of his countrymen (does he even have a country?? He's been disowned by his own family), and I would like to see him squirm. I can't see how a person uses religion to justify death of so many innocent people.
I have so many thoughts about that day, and I'd like to hear more.

I agree. I can't believe its been a year too. I was talking to one of my friends tonight and I mentioned the same thing. I think I just thought of one good thing about the attacks. I can't believe I can think of something good out of this, but here goes. I think it woke us up. It really woke us up and showed us that yes the attacks were bad, but just think of how worse it could've been. I won't mention the things that could've happened, because I don't want to scare anybody. Believe me, I was scared to death. I wrote in my diary that day and it terrifies me to look at the entry now. It made us realize that we aren't as invincible as we thought we were. I wished we had gotten an easier and less painful wake up call, but maybe we wouldn't have paid attention to a lighter wake up call? I wish the towers had never fell and people didn't have to die. My heart goes out to every single person that lost someone from the attacks.
I've already stated what I was doing the day of the 11th, but I'll post it here to make things more complete. I was in Senior Lit. when the WTC was attacked. It seemed more like a nightmare than reality. During 2nd period was the attacks on the Pentagon. I must admit that I questioned life on the day. Is this the end? Is this the tease and then one more blast ends it all? What did I feel most though? Was it fear, more than likely. Was it anger? Not at first, because the situation hadn't unfolded completely that day. When the first plane hit, I thought it was some kind of freak accident. Then when more planes started hitting and the word terroist was brought into the mix, that's when the anger came in. This whole thing knocked everybody to the ground, and I must say that America has proved its bravery by standing up again.
I guess I better stop for now. I've ran my mouth long enough for this post. Hope most of it makes sense. So much for the short posts eh?
Kay Scarpetta 09-11-2002, 03:34 PM R.I.P. to everyone who died in the attacks. We will never forget.

vienna waits 09-11-2002, 05:04 PM I don't think a countdown is nessesary to remember them. Haven't we been remembering them all year? Not just at the moment that its been one year?

The image in your post really got me, CiB. Thanks so much for posting it.
As one of the "original" viewers of TFOL (this means I am old -- 26), I want to encourage everyone to remember last 9/11, and this one as well. This is an event that has changed history, and we were all influenced by it in some way. In decades to come, it will be remembered such as Pearl Harbor, the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the death of Princess Diana.
It is unfortunate that it takes such a devastating event to make us appreciate so many things, and hold them close at night like a soft pillow.
God Bless America!!!

ABlairican Pie 09-11-2002, 09:18 PM I wasn't blessed to watch the insanity on t.v. on a regular basis last year, even though I followed the action following on t.v. at work. I listened to much of it on the radio. Funny, today on KISW
99.9 FM in Seattle today they have a special thing today where you can share your thoughts and relate a song that is meaningful to you in relation to the events of 9/11. I called up and requested
"Holy Wars" by Megadeth, a song I explained that dealt with the
absurdity of religion's tendency to cause violence ("Killing for religion/Something I can't understand"), but the d.j thought my choice might be interpreted as "SUPPORTING" the Islamic fundamentalists, i.e. Jihad, and I told him it wasn't that way at all.
But apparently my song wasn't played, they're playing all songs
that tie into it just by a title or whatever, but nothing having to do with war, terrorism, violence, religion, death, heroism, or anything like that. Songs like "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd
and "I Remember You" by Skid Row get played, but nothing about getting out the rage over violence or war gets attention obviously today.:(
ABlairican Pie 09-11-2002, 09:22 PM Okay, now that I've touched on the subject, what songs come to mind about 9/11? Let's here some responses, name a song and artist (if you know) and why you choose it.
Yes, I know this has nothing much to do with FOL, but...it's just interesting and thought-provoking.

Well, for me, 2 songs come to mind about last 9/11:
Where were you when the world stopped turning? by Alan Jackson
And
Courtesy of the red white and blue (The angry American) by Toby Keith.
I choose those two because it seems to sum up what I'm feeling. The sadness, the shock, the anger, and the fact that the US is still standing and fighting back!

Alan Jackson? Yo, Dannie IM me and let me tell you something about Alan Jackson.
ABlairican Pie 09-12-2002, 09:47 PM 1. War Pigs--Black Sabbath
2. Two Minutes To Midnight--Iron Maiden
3. Holy Wars...The Punishment Due--Megadeth
These three songs touch on the horror and devastation of war, as well as the manipulation of people into slaves of combat. I hope these don't seem critical of our current war against terrorism, but we should be reminded that al-Qaeda started the war with lobbing planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and almost at Washington D.C.
I would like to hear the one song by Toby Kaith, it seems like he's been considered too politically incorrect for voicing his anger in that one song. BUT WHAT'S THIS ABOUT ALAN JACKSON???  Now you got ME curious...
I'm gonna get some lyrics of the above three songs later.

Toby's song ROCKS!!! I have his new CD that has the song on it, now I can listen to it whenever. I'll try to get the lyrics and post them tonight sometime. I think it's a great song and it really sums up how I feel some of the time.

ABlairican Pie 09-13-2002, 09:27 PM Sorry, I misspelled it, it should be Toby Keith. What was the name of that song and which album is it on again??
ABlairican Pie 09-13-2002, 09:33 PM Oh yeah, DUUUUHHHHHHH, "The Angry American". I should learn how to use the scrollbar...

Here's the Lyrics for ya Dannie :D
Courtesy of the Red White and Blue - Album "Unleashed" by Toby Keith
American Girls and American Guys
We’ll always stand up and salute
We’ll always recognize
When we see Old Glory Flying
There’s a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head
My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Until the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.
Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin’ in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July
Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin’ her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it’s gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin’ her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue
Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you’ll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
`Cause we`ll put a boot in your ass
It`s the American way
Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin’ her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it’s gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin’ her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

james_baby87 09-16-2002, 06:42 PM I can't believe its been over a year since September 11th. It seems like it was just yesterday! I can remember where I was when it happened I can remember what my homeroom teacher said when he told us and I can even remember what I was wearing that day. Have I gone crazy or do some of you remember that too? I was soo worried when I found out about the Pentogon attack because my dad travels and he was supposed to be in D.C then. So I spent all day with that in mind. But lucky for me when I got home from school that day he called and was in LA I was so realived when he called.
