LuLu Rogers 11-07-2008, 11:23 PM Does anyone else LOVE this movie?! I just finished watching it and I still have tears in my eyes, it never fails to move me. Geena Davis, Tom Hanks, Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna are amazing in this movie, especially Geena! I really love this movie! Anyone else? :)

treky 11-08-2008, 01:34 AM I remember seeing it when it came out Lauren, and even though I haven't seen it since then; from what I remember, you're right; it IS good.
I also remember they filmed some scenes at THE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME in Cooperstown, N.Y.
In fact; I went to the museum a few months after it came out and I saw that display that they were all looking at, at the end of the movie.
Now that you've reminded me of it, I think I'll make it my next rental from Netflix!
I love this movie. Tom Hanks' "There's no crying in baseball" rant is IMO the funniest thing he has ever done in a film.
Besides that, its such a good story, a lot of fun and very touching. It makes me wish I could see baseball played in that era.
Schmoopie 11-08-2008, 06:40 AM This movie is on my top ten best list! I have watched it countless times and never get tired of it! One note of interest. Several years ago, I had a major paper assingned for a really hard ethics class I was taking. The teacher gave us a list of subjects and we had to pick from the list. One of them was women in non-traditional roles, which is what I picked.
At first all I could find was information on women working in steel mines, etc-like Rosie the Riveter, and that information was pretty limited. Then it dawned on me to do some research into the women's baseball movement. Once I shifted my focus onto women's baseball, I literally threw myself into this project, finding everything I could. After I did the paper I watched the movie and I was just amazed at the accuracy that was put into League of their Own. It completely changed my view of this wonderful film and if I am ever fortunate enough to meet Penny Marshall I am going to commend her on this excellent film. It deserves an award! Probably the best baseball movie ever, IMO! And what an excellent cast!

That and when he hits Stillwell in the nose with a glove

I LOVED Madonna in this! That part she played was perfect for her, because Mae was a little bit "saucy" in it!

Just a quick heads up folks:
Oxygen is showing A League Of Their Own this morning (Sunday) at 11:30 (EST).
Oxygen is cutting the Hell out of this movie.
I really really ree-hee-heally hate when a station stretches out the running time of a movie to 2 1/2 hours for a million commercial breaks, and they still cut and trim scenes!
Chocolate Moose 11-09-2008, 02:20 PM haven't seen that in a loong time ..

LOL - I freaked when I saw your notice Tom since I'm reading this at 1:50 p.m. and figured I missed something, but if they're cutting the crap out of it then forget it! Some movies shouldn't be tampered with!
Andrea - ya, this was the one time Madonna could actually act! (she basically played herself I think!! lol)
I liked Rosie in this too - long before she started to open that big yap of hers!
