Kitt 09-14-2002, 01:58 PM Originally posted by JanLady617 My mother died of lung cancer in March of this year, and my father died two months later from cancer of the esophogus. :( A mother and a father both, inside of just two months, is about as tough to take as it gets. I guess no one has noticed the weight of that statement and how hard that had to have been for you, JanLady. My own dad is hanging in pretty well battling cancer right now. When my grandparents - my mother's parents - both died from cancer I was perhaps too self involved to notice how hard that was on my mom at the time. I've learned since then that no matter how stoic she tried to be, it took a lot out of her. I fear for myself and certainly for my mother, right along with my dad, in the upcoming stages of his illness. It hurts to watch a parent become disoriented and weakened by disease. What you have been through hits home to me in a big way. Mr. Shy Guy 09-14-2002, 02:09 PM I seriously can't think of anybody in my family that has cancer. That's good though. Janice 09-14-2002, 02:34 PM Originally posted by kittflynn It hurts to watch a parent become disoriented and weakened by disease. What you have been through hits home to me in a big way. Thank you for your kind words Kitt. I wish you the best with your father. As cliche as this sounds, I know how you feel. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone here who has lost or is losing a loved one to that monster named cancer. ABlairican Pie 09-14-2002, 02:41 PM My mother has cancer, currently the tumors have decreased. Liver cancer, lymphoma, and parts of the lungs. Have to get used to the thought that she isn't very healthy anymore. My concern also for myself is that I don't take care of my skin enough, I should go back and throw on sunscreen and wear a cap. I guess the one thing that is..."good" about all this is that you won't be in for suprises when she dies...:( Btw, have I ever told anyone this is the first time I have ever been on this chit-chat site?? Welcome to Chit Chat. I'm sorry to hear about your mother. It's so difficult. Please take care of your skin. My husband's ex-wife was a sun worshipper and was recently diagnosed with Stage IV malignant melonoma (the worst stage). That's what killed Maureen Reagan last year. Too much sun can kill a person. Penny Lane 09-14-2002, 03:23 PM My dad has prostate cancer and is getting chemotherapy . It will not cure it but it will keep the cancer from hitting the vital organs. So far he's doing well but he is almost 80 years old . We are planning a birthday party to celebrate . Hope he makes it! :( Mossopp 09-14-2002, 04:40 PM When I was 11 I watched my Grandmother die of pancreatic cancer. It was a very disturbing thing - the drugs the doctors had her on to ease her pain just made her worse. They made her crazy - gave her hallucinations and everything. Laterly, as her cancer got worse and worse, my parents let my grandmother stay in our house so they could take care of her themselves. She stayed in the room next to mine and some of the last memories I have of my Gran are lying in bed at night just listening to her screaming herself to sleep. I'll never forget that. Cancer is a truly horrible disease and my worst nightmare would be to suffer from it myself. Babes_Cat 09-25-2002, 09:58 PM My Uncle... (Well, my dad's cousin's husband. I call him my uncle.) was just diagnosed with colon cancer and it's supposedly really bad. :( |
