My mother loves the song One Less Bell To Answer and I would like to know the story behind it. Is the song about a woman wishing for a better quieter life away from her husband or is it about a romance gone wrong? Also what other singers have covered One Less Bell To Answer? My mom especially likes the lyric "one less egg to fry"

The story is about losing your love. She has one less egg to fry because he's gone. Hal David wrote the lyrics and he said he got the idea when he was at a dinner party and somebody was not going to come and a woman said, That's one less bell to answer.
