In 1999 we got to see a historic event in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and commercial history as the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee became the first ever cereal commercial mascot balloon as well as the only bee balloon in the parade. The reason why the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee was featured in the 1999 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was to honor the 25th anniversary of Honey Nut Cheerios and for the chance for kids ages 6 to 12 to enter a contest to give the bee a clever name. In 2000 the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee was christened with the name BuzzBee that was submitted by a girl from Texas. In 2001 BuzzBee's balloon was given a new look that honored the anniversary of Cheerios that was designed by a school in Texas. Although retired in 2002 the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee balloon still ranks as the only cereal commercial mascot balloon in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in history

Would like to see some other cereal mascots: Tony the Tiger, Quisp, Trix Rabbit, Lucky the Leprechaun, Captain Crunch, or Snap Crackle, Pop. There are so many to choose from.

I don't know why General Mills decided to have a balloon of the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee in the 1999 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade because I know it was to honor the 20th Anniversary of Honey Nut Cheerios and to give the bee a cool name. But I would've chosen the Trix Rabbit as the cereal mascot balloon of 1999 instead of the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee because Trix Cereal is also a General Mills cereal too. And why the name BuzzBee for the bee as the winning name for the bee? I could've chosen a more clever name such as Buzzy or Cheery but for some reason the name BuzzBee sounds weird. I can tell you when Honey Nut Cheerios has it's 40th Anniversary they will make a brand new Honey Nut Cheerios Bee balloon for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and it would recieve rave reviews
