INDIANAPOLIS (May 1, 2008) – Emmy award-winning actress Patricia Heaton will serve as grand marshal of the 2008 IPL 500 Festival Parade as was announced today by 500 Festival President and CEO Kirk Hendrix. The Parade is Saturday, May 24, and will be a celebration of the 2008 theme: Fuel the Dream.
Heaton is best known for her role as Debra Barone on the award-winning series Everybody Loves Raymond. She is currently starring in 20th Century Fox’s newest television comedy Back to You with Kelsey Grammer. Her other television credits include prominent roles in the series Room for Two, Someone Like Me and Women of the House, and a recurring role on the critically-acclaimed series thirtysomething. She has also appeared in the CBS television film A Town Without Christmas and Miracle in the Woods.
“We are fortunate to have such a talented and accomplished actress to serve as our grand marshal,” said Kirk Hendrix, President and CEO of the 500 Festival. “Patricia is a great talent who has brought laughter into the homes of millions and we are thrilled to have her as a part of one of the nation’s largest and most cherished parades.”
“I'm thrilled to be the Grand Marshal of this year's IPL 500 Festival Parade and to be joined by my husband David Hunt and four boys-who of course love race cars,” said Patricia Heaton. “I am aware of the legacy and tradition of the Parade and the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race and am honored to be a part of the festivities this year."
More than 300,000 spectators are expected to line the two-mile parade route to catch a glimpse of the 33 starting drivers of the 92nd Indianapolis 500, more than 80 specialty units, spectacular floats, marching bands and entertainment groups, giant inflatable balloons and costumed characters including Donnie and Eliza Thornberry, Cosmo and Wanda and the Care Bears.
Entering its 51st year, the IPL 500 Festival Parade is a representation of the power and pageantry of the month of May.
The Parade has grown to be one of the signature events in the U.S. each year. It consistently ranks among the top three parades in the nation including the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The Parade will be televised nationally on ESPN2 from 5-6:30 p.m. EDT; and locally on WISH TV 8 from 8-10 p.m.
