And at the time, Alyssa was clearly the fan favorite (https://thecharmedcafe.proboards.com/thread/10116/alyssa-milano-thread) with the general public whereas people still hated Shannen (https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/comments/1474gl4/why_does_everyone_hate_shannen_doherty/) for what happened on the set of Beverly Hills, 90210.
