View Full Version : Jack Albertson On Alias Smith And Jones
Cheryl Harrell 10-06-2006, 03:39 AM We now get a westerns channel on Dish Network & it shows re-runs of the early 70's western Alias Smith And Jones. I bet some of ya'll remember that show. Last nite we were watching it & Jack Albertson was on last nites Alias Smith And Jones. He played a judge in it.
I couldn't help but noticed the similarities between Peter Duel who played Hannibal Heyes on there & Freddie. Peter Duel who played Hannibal Heyes committed suicide while the show was still on tv & they got Roger Davis to replace him on there. I didn't remember Roger Davis replacing him on there tho. I remember when Peter Duel died but after he did I sure don't remember the show being on anymore.
I looked up Alias Smith And Jones on the internet recently out of curiosity to find out more on it. I came upon some Alias Smith And Jones message boards on the internet. There were folks on there acting just like we do over CATM & Freddie. People speculating what would've happened if Peter Duel had lived, disscussions on what people were doing when they found out he had died, people writing how they would love to still have him here. I commented to Mike when I was watching Jack on Alias Smith And Jones that that was 2 shows Jack Albertson was on where the main star of the show committed suicide. I don't know that much about Peter Duel but I wonder if he was feeling the same things Freddie was? So sad for both him & Freddie...

Luckymama58 10-07-2006, 01:24 PM I remember when all of that happened, it wasn't really that much earlier than Freddie..... it was so sad....
I also remember thinking when Freddie died back to Pete's death and wondered what Hollywood did to these talented young men that would get them so depressed about life that they would want to end it all.... I kinda lost faith in Hollywood at the time....
Karen64 10-08-2006, 09:53 AM I don't remember that show. Back then, my television viewing was limited to what my dad wanted to watch, on a tiny black and white set! He must not have wanted to watch this show! LOL!
I used to think that successful actors; musicians, etc had nothing to worry about and should have no reason whatsoever to be unhappy....I learned as I got older that it just doesn't work that way!
Peter duel had dimples too and was dark haired handsome, not freddie but handsome
Prince 10-08-2006, 08:22 PM I remember the show too. I used to watch it all the time. You're right Joy...Peter was handsome...but nothing compared to Freddie.
Danisel331 10-09-2006, 04:44 AM Hi all!
Just in case you didn't know, Alias Smith and Jones wasn't the only show Pete Duel was on. He was also on Gidget as her brother-in-law.
Looks very different with his shorter hair.....

Cheryl Harrell 10-10-2006, 03:43 AM You're right, he was on Gidget. I always liked that show. I have a vhs video of Gidget with him in it. I believe it maybe out on dvd now. I'd like to get that sometime. I think Freddie would've been great on an ep of AS&J. It coms on a Westerns channel on Dish Network...
Danisel331 10-10-2006, 04:17 AM Yes, the whole series is available on DVD. It was only one season I believe, which is a shame. It was a cute lil show for it's time. Best of luck finding it, it's been out for a lil while, but it seems to get harder to find the longer you wait.:)

Karen, I remember those days, that was back in the 60's for me.... My dad's two favorite shows back then were Star Trek and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. I never really got into the latter, but the former I was hooked on when it went into syndication in the 70's....
I also remember that this was before remotes, WE were my dad's remote! LOL :) AND I remember my dad would get really mad if we asked him questions about what was going on, so if we wanted to watch with him, we had to be quiet! LOL
Cheryl Harrell 12-08-2006, 04:44 AM Miracle on 34th Street was on tv the other nite & Jack Albertson was in it. It's been shown a few times this week. It was on AMC, I think...

I bought the boxed set of the Thin Man movies for my hubby for Christmas. One of the videos has the pilot for the TV series that came after the William Powell/Myrna Loy movies staring Peter Lawford and Phillis Kirk as Nick and Nora Charles. What I didn't realize is that Jack Albertson played Lt Evans in the series..... that was cool! LOL
lol lucky you are so funny, fortunately or unfortuntely i got to watch most what i wanted, which is why i am what my mom calls...the walking tv guide!
i learned to tell time, no offense to the teacher here lol, by the TV because i remember the brady bunch was on at 6:oo when i used to watch it. lol
Though i love the remote when you have a cannel flipper in the faimily a remote can be a curse. lol
and with me my dad was the ne who always asks the questions and 9 times out of 10 if he'd wait a minute or two he'd find out the answer lol
