(I wasn't sure if this was better for here or the movies board)

>>>David Letterman isn't an actor, but that didn't stop his agent from forcing him to audition for Airplane!<<<

I was thinking (yeah, I know, first time for everything), okay, so maybe Airplane wouldn't have become the classic it's considered to be today, but would it really have been worse then this?

Surely you can't be serious. :)

Airplane! is one of the funniest movies of the 1980s.

They made the right choice picking Robert Hays for Ted Striker. It's a good thing Letterman got his morning show and eventually Late Night.

"Airplane" creators David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker share Dave's audition for the iconic comedy.
(From "Late Night," air date: 3/15/82)

David should’ve mention his TOP TEN reasons why he thought this was a bad idea.

Those of you who watched him hosting the Late Show will get the reference.

I think the top tens go back to his 1980s NBC show.

His weatherman gig on channel 13 here was a comedy show, but I guess there was never time for that, or maybe eh would have done it at the end of the weather, too.

You’re right. The top 10 did go back to his NBC show. Here’s the ALWAYS ACCURATE Wikipedia:

“ Before Letterman's departure for CBS, NBC had insisted that the "Top Ten List" was the intellectual property of the network and demanded that it not be used on his new show; Letterman rebutted that the list was not NBC's property or even his own, since he had stolen the concept from elsewhere. A loose compromise was reached where it would be renamed the "Late Show Top Ten," although Letterman would soon simply refer to it once again as the "Top Ten List", with no repercussions.”
