View Full Version : Last Man Standing and Man with a Plan to air on Laff
LittleRoom02 09-13-2023, 11:10 AM According to TV Passport and a promo I've been seeing on the channel, Last Man Standing and the CBS sitcom Man with a Plan will be airing on Laff starting September 25th.

While I find both acquisitions strange considering how recent both shows are, I find the addition of Man with a Plan to be random. I haven't watched the show other than seeing a few bits and pieces on CBS, but I'm willing to give the show a shot.
blueberrymuffin 09-13-2023, 12:18 PM Huh.
Interesting... Well, Man with a Plan's inclusion is interesting. Last Man Standing is on a lot of networks already.
Svenfan1234 09-13-2023, 12:21 PM Very interesting. I wonder if Laff is starting to venture into more modern sitcoms from the 2010s now. I wonder if they'll add stuff like Modern Family, Superstore, The Office (this one may be complicated with cable rights), The Conners, etc. They still seem to be mainly working with Disney (Last Man Standing is 20th Fox, now owned by Disney); however Man with a Plan is from CBS... I guess we'll see!
LittleRoom02 09-13-2023, 12:28 PM I highly doubt they'd add something like The Office (which is already in fave TV), but Superstore could be plausible. Who really knows? I feel like the addition of How I Met Your Mother was an experiment for them in a way. I'm surprised HIMYM even lasted 3 years on Laff considering how badly the series finale ruined the show's legacy.
I am curious how Man with a Plan ended up in their hands.

Yeah, they might just be. I'm kinda hoping for Community and Parks & Rec reruns myself.
Alan Brady's Hair 09-13-2023, 12:45 PM I'm guessing they're both shows that have limited streaming potential. Allen and LeBlanc are both strongly identified with 90s TV.
icecream 09-13-2023, 01:16 PM This is LAFF's new weekday schedule starting September 25.

It will be nice to see Man With a Plan, I did not start watching regularly until season 3. Last Man Standing is so overplayed on several other stations, I would have rather seen The Middle which is still lacking a home. A daily movie is not needed, since they have rights to The Doris Day Show that would have made a nice morning lead-in for ALF.

Parks & Rec is probably more likely than The Office to come to LAFF since Parks & Rec is barely aired in syndication so I could see it should they get a deal with Universal — if they did, I could also see Superstore and A.P. Bio on LAFF. Community is another one I could see on LAFF for sure.
icecream 09-13-2023, 01:53 PM A.P. Bio is never coming to syndication, it only has 42 episodes total and got very low ratings in its original run. With How I Met Your Mother flopping and not lasting long in primetime, niche shows like Community, Parks and Recreation, and Superstore would do even worse.
Svenfan1234 09-13-2023, 02:07 PM A.P. Bio is never coming to syndication, it only has 42 episodes total and got very low ratings in its original run. Man with a Plan has 69 episodes. Community, Parks and Recreation, and Superstore are all popular and even though they’re niche, so are plenty of other shows that do well in syndication. Wasn’t saying they would, just I can see it happening someday if they go on this route. All do well on streaming.
Oh, and How I Met Your Mother did not flop, the rights expired after about 3 years which happens. Primetime does not always equate success, and it never was put on hiatus for the 3 years it was on. Had to have been doing well to not be yanked once.

And? Man with a Plan has only 69 episodes and I don't think it was that popular of a show to begin with.

But it goes directly against what you were saying. Both are well under 100 episodes.

That has me wondering if any show on Laff has ever actually flopped. The closest I can think of is 3rd Rock from the Sun. I remember not towards the end of its first cycle, they moved it to the middle of the night before constantly changing its timeslots before just putting it on Saturday mornings and having the occasional marathon.
Svenfan1234 09-13-2023, 02:40 PM Anywho… to get this thread back on track… it is truly a surprise to see new shows coming to LAFF, and two at that! I don’t really watch LAFF, but I’m sure there are people delighted to see these two coming.

Without ratings, how could we know besides speculation?
LittleRoom02 09-13-2023, 02:41 PM Not a fan of Last Man Standing, but I'm looking forward to giving Man with a Plan a try.

icecream 09-13-2023, 02:48 PM But it goes directly against what you were saying. Both are well under 100 episodes.Man with a Plan still has 27 more episodes than A.P. Bio. I never said 100 episodes, 88 replaced that as the standard awhile ago. A.P. Bio was a total disaster on NBC that got moved off linear TV.

The Conners is going to be going into local syndication in 2024 so I doubt it will be on Laff anytime soon.

Man with a Plan has 69 episodes, not 88.
ThisLittlePiggy 09-13-2023, 03:45 PM I really like Man with a Plan.
icecream 09-14-2023, 05:24 PM LAFF should acquire George Lopez (his 2000s ABC sitcom) next. It looks that show is expiring from TBS with their new schedule, needs a new TV home. George Lopez would fit in well with According to Jim and Man With a Plan.
MikeLutton 09-14-2023, 06:11 PM i wish they bring empty nest back and add Dave's World with Harry anderson
icecream 09-14-2023, 06:32 PM Besides TeenNick which gets very sparse coverage, Boy Meets World hasn't aired anywhere on either cable or broadcast TV in way too long. Several other TGIF shows have aired elsewhere, but not one that is still remembered well by many with stuff like the Pod Meets World podcast. Betsy Randle recurred on Home Improvement before joining Boy Meets World. It would really be nice for LAFF to get it. This is a good weekday schedule for LAFF that includes their soon to be current roster/shows they have aired recently and the two shows I mentioned. The cheap video reality shows which I am glad to see have already been removed from afternoons would be reduced to weekend filler.
6-7AM That 70s Show
7-8AM Last Man Standing
8-9AM Home Improvement
9-11AM The Doris Day Show
11AM-12PM ALF
12-2PM According to Jim
2-3PM Man With a Plan- I like this show but 2 hours a day is a bit much for 69 episodes.
3-5PM Boy Meets World
5-7PM Home Improvement
7-9PM Last Man Standing
9-11PM That 70s Show
11PM-12:30AM George Lopez
12:30-1:30AM Everybody Hates Chris
1:30-2:30AM Grounded for Life
2:30AM ALF
3-6AM Infomercials
Svenfan1234 09-14-2023, 06:55 PM i wish they bring empty nest back and add Dave's World with Harry anderson
Empty Nest would be great to see come back on LAFF.
icecream 09-28-2023, 12:04 AM Man With a Plan has been a fun addition to LAFF. Matt LeBlanc and Liza Snyder have great chemistry.
cpmaz 10-06-2023, 11:25 PM Hope LAFF is paying less for Last Man Standing than it did for Home Improvement since LMS is basically a less funny rehash of HI.
