Did you know that Dick Van Dyke hosted this special? It was one hour long and aired around the time of DVD's final season of TDVDS. It was a tribute show to Stan Laurel, from the great comedic team Laurel and Hardy.

I vaguely remember when that was on. I don't remember much about the actual show, except there was a lot of criticism afterwards about it not having much to do with Stan Laurel.

Your right, it didn't really have much to do with Stan. There were a lot of nice stars in it, though. Dick Van Dyke, Lucille Ball, Fred Gwynne, Phil Silvers, Danny Kaye, Louis Nye, Tina Louise, Caesar Romero, and others.

BTW, it aired exactly 9 months after the death of Stan Laurel. A really good tribute would have been done immediately after the person's death, but they took 9 months!

Below, some pix from the "Salute".

Thanks for the pictures! Who is in the second picture? His face is distorted so I'm having a difficult time placing him. The closest I could come up with is Louis Nye.

I haven't seen this, but I agree: the guest list would indicate that this was nothing to do with Stan and was probably intended to plug CBS's lineup at the time. What a shame as some of Stan's contemporaries would have been living and could have been featured on this show.

Louise Nye is playing the fiddle in the first pic, I don't know who is in the second pic. I forget his name.

Tina Louise and Caesar Romero are also in the first pic. And in the last pic, Fred Gwynne as Herman Munster, playing a fiddle.

Just guessing. Could that be Paul Lynde?

Your guess is as good as mine. I have no idea.

Via googling I found out a guy named "Leonid Kinskey" was also a guest on the show. I have no idea who he was so it could be him. A google search points out that Leonid played a bombastic director which this character looks like.

The other male guests on the show were Danny Kaye, Herman Munster, Buster Keaton, Bob Newhart, Nye, Romero, Silvers, and Van Dyke. This fellow doesn't really resemble any of them. My vote is for Leonid.

I agree. That DOES look like Leonid Kinsky. I didn't think he was famous enough to have been a guest star, although he was a contemporary of Stan Laurel.
