Football overtook baseball as America's pastime quite a few years ago now. I'm tempted to point to the MLB players' strike of 1994-95 as a catalyst for declining interest, however the NFL's earlier strikes in the '80s didn't seem to cause any significant damage (shorter in duration for one thing). Both NFL and college fb's popularity keep on truckin' -- even if MLB does well, generally interest pales in comparison.
