Changing time slots does not usually help. But by 1976 the kids moved out and the show was losing its great comedy. It always had its loyal following but lets be real, it lost so much of its formula once the kids moved next door and Joey was born. It was nice to watch and keep up with the Bunkers but we just laughed a lot less and missed the old show.
The following year the wheels really started to come off and the writers resorted to bringing back Beverly LaSalle just to be murdered and shock value. Stupidest moment ever when Gloria goes to visit Mike in the hospital after the attack and murder and Mike has a bandage on his head. Gloria stands there and makes fun of his face while the audience laughed.
HELLO PEOPLE. Your husband was almost killed and you visit him in the hospital and laugh? They were out of ideas and resorted to shock value things like Edith's attempted rape, etc.

It looked like the show recovered nicely after going back to Saturday because it was on the verge of being out of the top 20 lol
