Everyone in my math class has them and the teacher is aware of it. She's cool with it as long as you don't play the games while she's teaching the math lesson. The reasoning: not everyone owned one. The schools simply disallowed all use of the machines since it would present an unfair advantage for the handful of students who could afford one. It had the number pad and the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division signs on it. That's about it. People were quite careless with the calculators to start with, so that's why they never bought fancy calculators. I chose to buy the scientific calculators because they had more to them then the plain ones that the school provided. The TI-83 Plus just has a few more features then the TI-83. That and it has a couple new buttons that replaced some form the TI-83. I have both a TI-83 and a TI-89.
