A lot of holidays just don't seem to be what they use to be when they first were celebrated.
So, take the poll and say what Labor Day means to you.

What does Labor Day mean to you?

( ) A day to celebrate American workers, each of whom in their jobs in business and industry, contribute to our Nation’s economic growth, prosperity, and security.

( ) Three-day weekend!

( ) It signals the end of summer, back to school, and football season is here!

( ) Other, please comment below.

Same as AMack, This little piggy and Dakert posted! Except change the apple pie to pumpkin pie or sweet potato pie ! :)

I used to be really sad as a kid on Labor day , meant back to school. Now it's like a relief that the summer is coming to an end !;)

I always thought it was hilarious that no one works on Labor Day.

It used to mean Jerry Lewis and his ridiculous telethon. Especially in the 1970’s when there was only three television stations (and PBS). I never really understood Jerry Lewis, he wasn’t funny, and was a jerk. Had to sort of admire the guy since he stayed up about thirty damn hours.

I think probably Labor Day is in the wrong time of the year. It is too soon after kids go back to school. The rest of the World celebrates it May 1. If I was a King, I would have a holiday for a week in mid October since it is cool then and Fall is my favorite season.

But Jerry Lewis sucked and sometimes death is a good thing!

I don't consider the telethon ridiculous. I volunteered to work the telethon for years and still volunteer for and attend MDA events. They raise a ton of money and do a lot of good.

Labor Day to me was very much a transitional day. When I was a kid Labor Day had an ominous connotation. School started on the Monday after Labor Day, it was the realization not only that the summer was over, but the next few days were going to be school prep days, buying the new school bag, pens, notepads, new school clothing that kind of thing. Getting out of bad habits, but habits I loved, I'm not a morning person I like staying up very late, always have, that doesn't go well with having to be in school and alert by 8:15.

As an adult, the day after Labor Day everything seemed to change. This is no longer true, but back in the day everyone got more serous, people dressed differently more formally, there was a greater sense of purpose. January 2nd was like that as well, the holidays seemed to life people's spirits but now they were over, it was almost like watching the air come out of as balloon.

My local radio station host(s) said that a lot of kids are starting school TODAY, September 5th!:confused: Where I live, school started on August 17th...
