I’m enjoying this show via Tubi and am on season 3. I was born in the late 70s, so i figure that my knowledge of the show comes from reruns and made for tv movies. But as I rewatch, I have some questions about “the times”:

- there are multiple references about Pasadena, where Abby is from. I don’t know much about local California culture, but was/is Pasadena considered upscale and superior to Sacramento? That seemed to be noted by Tom and by Abby’s parents.

- did the older girls live at home because they weren’t married? Or was it more based on whether they had the $$ to do so?

- also politics related, in the Thanksgiving episode, I noted how Abby’s father mentioned Ronnie Reagan and how he’d prefer an event supporting him. I imagine that at this time, Reagan was in the running to be Pres.

I truly enjoy this show. As a kid, I enjoyed watching their large caring family. It’s a bit emotional watching it now, but it makes me smile and think of simpler times. I’d love to hear any comments about how the show and popular culture intertwined!
