I just read a book I purchased a few years ago called "Addams Family Strikes Back." This paperback book is the second novel released during the show's run based on the tv show; the first being "Addams Family" by Jack Sharkey. I had heard how rare this book was and looked forward to obtaining it but I must admit when I finally did read the entire novel I was disappointed. The reason I did not like this book was it portrayed the family differently than their tv counterparts such as scenes featuring Gomez bellowing angrily at the top of his lungs, the octopus correctly called Aristotle on one page and incorrectly Claude the next, and Cousin Itt described as having three feet and a deep, baritone Lurch-like voice. For me one of the biggest turn offs regarding the book was the manner in which writer W F Miksch painted the beloved family. On television as in the original Charles Addams cartoons the Addamses were shown as weird and lovers of dark humor but in this book the family is shown as virtual devil worshippers. The book is filled with constant references to the family being evil, satanic, demonic, and Grandmama even summons up the prince of darkness himself on Halloween. I am sure this may not bother some people but in my opinion it along with the inconsistency in which the family is characterized makes this book inferior to the first novel.
Does anyone that has read and/or owned this book like this second novel or do you feel the same way I do? I am interested in your thoughts.
