I have 3 websites on CITYLSIDE free websites. I went to login to my websites & it would not let me login. I had been out of town a few weeks (we were visiting Mikes sister in Ohio) & unable to check on it.

All I can find on their site is stuff about getting paid websites thru CITYSLIDE & nothing about the free websites. I wondered if this meant that they have canned peoples free websites & only have paid websites now & we have now lost all our websites? I never received any notice of this which is a really a very dirty thing for them to do after people have went to all this trouble to make up websites. I hadn't made any backups of my sites either which means I have lost everything if this is the case. If they had gone to pay, the least they could do is let us know so we could try to copy our stuff at least the text & a layout of it so we could move it to elsewhere & not lose all the text we have written on our sites & be forced to re-do the site from elsewhere by scratch with not much memory of the text we had written on our sites & what order things were in. Not all of us can afford to pay for a website. I know alot of folks are gonna be so upset. If they have indeed gotten rid of our free sites without telling us that is very bad for their business because those of us who have been shafted in this way will not want to promote their business in anyway nor want to pay to a company who would do this to us without telling us via e-mail.

I e-mailed them saying I would really appreciate it if they could let me know whether or not my free sites (there were 3 of them) have been deleted & if they have could they please reinstate them long enough for me to copy my text off of the sites so I can save myself alot of hard work in trying to figure out exactly what was written on there & re-write it by scratch. They said they are going to pay. They are gonna close our sites down on Mon so I have to work fast LOL! I may put it on AOL for now since I gotta hurry to get it transfered. It's alot of work transferring sites. Yuck!

So if any of you have sites on CITYSLIDE, (I know Jenny Lee & Croiter do) you'll need to hurry & copy you stuff & re-create it elsewhere on the next by Monday & if you don't your site is gone or have to pay a monthly fee to keep your site. :( They didn't tell folks via e-mail. They said they only announced it on their site. So if you haven't been on CITYLSIDE for awhile like with me it was the trip to Mikes sisters in OH or with Jenny Lee her fathers passing, then you missed out on finding out. It's so sad that some of our Freddie sites may be gone due to this. :(

Jenny Lee recently lost their father & she doesn't deserve to have to be dealing with losing her website after losing their father.

Also for those of you with sites on GEOCITIES...

I had a website on Geocities on my friend Arlo the singer. I started it out on website space I had & when they kept giving me messages that I was using too much bandwidth & my site would be disabled during certain hours, I signed up for another Geocities website with my friends name in the title. I moved my front page of the site to it & a few pages from the other site on to it as well as some pages I had on HOMESTEAD that were for that site.

I also started a website on CATM & Freddie. Which is taking me forever to do & esp with these setbacks. I origionally had in on HOEMSTEAD & when they went to pay I moved it to GEOCITIES. I transferred what I had on HOMESTEAD to GEOCITIES. They kept giving me messages that I was using too much bandwidth & my site would be disabled during certain hours so I moved most of it to ANGELFIRE & TRIPOD & a few pages are now on host sk. Reason I was using GEOCITIES for those sites was it was one of the few websites that had a drop & drag website editor so you didn't have to learn HTML & was easy to use.

Now neither site shows up & it says it cannot find the sites. I am wondering if they canned my sites? The urrl of my the site on my friend is:

www.geocities.com/arlodguthrie.html

Fortunately on the CATM site I had on it a few pages mainly some pages I transferred from HOMESTEAD & I was doing my front page on there so I could copy the html from it put on TRIPOD. Cuz the NETJANE website editor which uses drop & drag doesn't seem to support putting text on images the way I want it to. Still even worse than losing the few pages I transferred from HOMESTEAD which I'd never remember how they were done is the fact if the site is canned I have lost my whole FRONT PAGE of the site & trying to remember what order I had stuff in & how I did it would be a real pain.

If they have canned my sites they have done it without telling me which is just mean considering how much work I put into them. :( If they did can my sites without telling me, then they should be forced to re-create the sites for me free of charge. GRRR! & If they have canned my sites I am gonna be very extremely upset.

First CITYSLIDE is going to pay & I have to move my sites from there by Monday as they get taken down Monday. & Now this... Doing website can really stress ya out! :(

Looks like GEOCITIES may not be a good place to host websites on anymore. YUCK! :(

So a heads up for those of you with Freddie sites. Figured you'd want to know... Those of you with Freddie sites, GOOD LUCK!

Boy Cheryl that is dirt of them to do that. I just went to your site on Arlo, and they said no such site. Better double check on it. Then let me know if its up and running.

I went to it & sure enough it is still down. They must've canned it. I wonder if if could've been cuz I didn't constantly update it all the time. & My freddie stuff on GEOCITIES is gone too it looks like. I had done up my front page of my Freddie site on there & it looks like I am gonna have a really hard time trying to figure out what I had on my front page & what order it was in & what order the pages on my site were in. YUCK! With this & me having to move my CITYSLIDE site to elsewhere cuz they are going to pay on Mon, I suspect it will take me 20 yrs LOL to get my Freddie site done... :(

Thanks for the support! :)

OMGoodness Cheryl!!!

You're right! :crying: I think I've lost my website to Freddie... :crying: If it wasn't for you I would not have known. I looked at my emails and saw nothing. I just emailed them and hopefully they have pity on me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :crying:

That's bad you are losing your site. I think the website addresses of the CITY SLIDE free sites are at a cityslide2.com. So your site should be at http://www.freddie-prinzesrdedicationfromjennylee.cityslide2.com You might want to try typing that in your puter & seeing if it comes up.

If it does you can save a copy on your puter this way & do a new site from it. Go to each page & do this. Go to a page & copy the text by highlight & copy. The copy into a word processing program like WORDPAD or WORD PERFECT & save it on floppy disk or your puter. Save all the pics off of your site. You will need to open up each pic in a picture editing program like IRFAN VIEW or PAINT etc & crop it so your website address gets taken off it & doesn't show & then save it. That way the old CITY SLIDE address isn't on the pic anymore. Or use your origional pic. Noiw sign up for a new free website else where on the net & then re-do each page on the new website by copying the text onto the page & inserting the pics. It may be slightly different than your old page but it will work. You'll want to have the home & next buttons on each page too & on the front page of the site a list of all the pages on the site. THis is alot of hard work but it'll allow you to do another site similar or almost like the old one & much easier. Good luck!

Sure hope Croiter finds out & doesn't lose his site as it was a good one too...

I went searching around & discovered that fortunately I had put a backup of my front page of my CHICO AND THE MAN site onto my TRIPOD Site just in case of emergency. I went & discovered I can view my CHICO & THE MAN site stuff I had on GEOCITIES & my website on my friend Arlo the singer that was on GEOCITIES. I just can't login to work on them. Really weird. when I login GEOCITIES instead of taking me to the page for GEOCITES, it takes me to a page that is a YAHOO MY YAHOO page. So now I have no idea whether or not they are canned (Deleted) now.

I know I need to save copies on floppies or my puter but sadly I can't do that right now as my hard drive is too full & I only have a few floppies left & can't afford to buy more right now. Maybe next month I'll be able to afford to get some more floppies & put a back up everything on them.

& With CITYSLIDE going to pay & canning my personal site there on Mon I am working my butt off to get the stuff transferred to AOL. I am just grateful to God (Thank you God) my pages are still viewable cuz it means it will make it easier to copy them & transfer them. Having to recreate with no copy of the origional to go by could've caused a nervous breakdown LOL! LOL!

I am still stumped as to why it won't log me in right to GEOCITIES...

You know, I've been experiencing the same thing. When I clicked on the individual links to each individual site, they were down. I hope they'll be functioning again very soon. :(

About a week ago, I found a site tributed to Freddie which is entitled "Sweet Laughter Man". It's very creative and the music in which plays from the homepage made me so sad. :(

I listened to it while slowly scrolling down the page while looking at his (Freddie) pictures.

& Why I can't log in to do any work on my sites I dunno. The Laughterman site you saw must've been Wheeeones site. That is a nice site!

Sure hope no one loses their sites...

Thanks for the support! This is strange... My sites are now coming up in NETSCAPE but not INTERNET EXPLORER, CRAZY BROWSER or AOL. I'm wondering if maybe they a e having problems working with INTERNET EXPLORER & it's a bug? I'm just glad to see they are still there & up. Whenever I work on them I'll have to use NETSCAPE for right now. I use NETSCAPE as a back up for those sites that won't work right in other browsers. Generally NETSCAPE works waaay too slow on my puter but hey I am just glad GEOICITES comes up okay on there...

I hope not. :(

I agree,it's a very nice site, very creative. Along with all of the other Freddie sites in which have been created.

Sometimes, I worry about people criticizing me for becoming a fan of and creating a site for someone who passed away before I was even born and actually haven't known of for very long. But I see it as this, he was very talented and his legacy will live on touching the lives of those young and old (LOL! I apologize for "old" statement).

I heard the same thing from my own family. How can you do that??? blah, blah, blah.... etc. WELL.......... I told them that Freddie touched my heart in the 70's and I MISS him and will always LOVE  him. That shut them up but, I'm sure they're still scratching their heads.   It's all about what makes me HAPPY!!!

Hope you & Croiter get to re-do your sites. They are both nice!

That's neat that a younger person has become a Freddie fan. It's nice to see young folks loving our stars from our generation. I ebt you will have a neato site on him.

Folks think I'm weird to like a dead guy & think it's weird I would start to like him so many yrs after his death instead back when he was alive. It's all John Travolta & the Monkees fault cuz even tho I watched CATM back them & loved it I wasn't into Freddie at the time. I am now making up for lost time. Folks just don't understand. But you guys do & that's why it's so important to have boards like this here. It's rough going being a fan of a star & not knowing there were any other fans of that star. That happened before we had the internet. We are each other support system here! & We have got it bad LOL! Thanks Freddie! :)

He may be a dead man as they say but let me tell you honey is he is much better & hotter looking than alot of alive men. Go Chico/Freddie. Also people think because I am so nuts about him that am so obsessed.

They also think the same thing about me being a fan & friends with Arlo. People just don't understand. They ask why do I have to go & see him all the time. Don't I get tired of hearing the same songs all the time? I am so obsessed etc. & I shouldn't be traveling so far to see him (& bear in mind I only travel to anywhere here in VA to see him & the other states near it MD, NC, DC, WV & if he comes to Ohio in the summer we plan visiting Mikes sister around it). They just don't understand. I am not just going to see some singer I am a fan of but a friend who I have shared many special times with. Before I met Arlo I just knew if we met we'd become good friends. & I was right. I now feel in my heart that if I had met Freddie we would've been good friends too.

They forget this is a good obsession. Alot of folks are obsessed over bad things like drugs & alcohol & extra-marital affairs. & This obsession is fun & clean cut. :)

It doesn't help being over 40 & being a fan of stars LOL! Folks think I'm too old for that & that that is for teenagers. So I depend on you guys for support. :)

& Yes I like a dead guy & if folks don't like it, it is MY life & not their's. ;) Let them go thru life without our great fan fiction, doctored up photos of Freddie (thanks to Photoshop, Adobe etc.) & videos of the hot Hunga-rican. It's their loss! ;) Meanwhile Freddie is my mid-life crises & boy does he make mid-life fun! If I gotta survive middle age I might as well have some fun doing it! ;)

We're Chicoholics & proud of it! :) :)

I let it slide because she obviously doesn't understand. She did sound kind of insensitive about it though and the next time she says it, I won't be so passive about it. :D

I was not able to work on my CITYSLIDE sites recently or log in due to the fact that we had relatives visiting recently from out of town & that left me with no time to tranfer my website. I only had enough time to check my e-mail & the messages on the several message boards I do like here. In order to have worked on the site, I would've had to pull all niters which would've been very hard on me.

Well I notice my site was down so I e-mailed them to see how to get it back up. They wrote back & said that they deleted all the free sites now & they can't find my info! It looks like Jenny Lee's & CROITERS sites are gone. :(

CITYSLIDE should've sent out e-mails to folks. When they saw folks weren't logging into their site, that should've tipped them off that folks were busy & couldn't log right then into their sites to try to copy & transfer the sites. & Then they should've gave them an extension on their time to transfer the sites & sent an e-mail to them to let them know. They have fogotten there are alot of us out there that can't afford to pay for our websites & it's a struggle just to pay for internet access. I tried to save all my pages on my puter but I think a few of them got lost & now I will have to recreate them not knowing exactly what I origionally had on there which is going to be a real pain. This has me really upset . :( It's so sad...

So hopefully those with CITYSLIDE sites had enough time to transfer the, we hope... Good luck!

It so sad they lost their sites. I will miss them I realize CITYSLIDE couldn't afford to keep the sites free but they forgot those of us who couldn't pay. Thank God my Freddie site I am working on wasn't on there...

Oh no! So they ARE gone permanently. I can tell that they had invested much of their time and effort into creating them. :(

Now I'm worried about Angelfire doing the same thing although I shouldn't because they have the options of paying for their services or just settling for free service.
