View Full Version : Creepiest segment benoitbabe 08-14-2023, 02:10 PM Mine has to be the arsonist tape. He was bone chilling and hair raising. Gottacallphelp 08-15-2023, 09:15 PM Debbie, the lady who was abducted and then shot and left for dead in the woods. ogapogadots 08-15-2023, 10:07 PM I'm unsure. There's lots of em but many segments are just basic interesting mystery moments in total of 10 or 15 min. I think several murder segments have 1 or 2 scary scenes but otherwise not so scary. Like beverly McGowan scene with the travel agency man in disguise as a lady always scared my older brother and I as kids. Beverly's other scene are ok. ogapogadots 08-15-2023, 10:38 PM Megan Curl. Many scary moments.. . 1) the female neighbor actually sees Megan's killer across the room sitting silently! 2) this female friend talking in disguise in darkness with a scary voice distortion. 3) creepy music in the background that we are all accustomed to! 4) when Megan actually went down to talk to this mystery man in the car it got creepier! a) the friend on the 2nd floor goes inside. Later comes out, now she sees Megan INSIDE the creepy man's car talking. b) later the lady neighbor comes out AGAIN and sees the car empty! schmave 08-15-2023, 11:30 PM Mine has to be the arsonist tape. He was bone chilling and hair raising. I felt the same way when I was a kid during the original run. The more I've seen that segment over the years, the more I laugh because it's just some dorky teenager trying to sound scary. To some extent, he succeeded! The Tom Dixon/Gary Simmons, Gord McAllister and Philip Fraser segments still creep me out. dynoguy88 08-16-2023, 02:57 PM I felt the same way when I was a kid during the original run. The more I've seen that segment over the years, the more I laugh because it's just some dorky teenager trying to sound scary. To some extent, he succeeded! I always felt alone on an island when it came to this segment. Everyone always claimed how creeped out they were by that voice. One of the fire chiefs interviewed in the segment even expresses how creepy it was and how he had trouble going to bed that night. But even as a 4th grader watching this segment during its original run, it was obvious that this was the voice of a kid. And kid's voices never scared me. If you gave that dialogue to a man with a deep voice, I'm sure I would have had nightmares along with the rest of you. But this guy? No. When this story was later featured on 'Cold Case Files,' and we finally got to see what this kid looked like, it was all but confirmed what a dork he truly was. A disturbed dork, yes. But still a dork. TheCars1986 08-16-2023, 03:46 PM Alan Mann segment Gottacallphelp 08-16-2023, 07:22 PM I always felt alone on an island when it came to this segment. MegtheEgg86 08-16-2023, 07:34 PM Alan Mann segment Let go of my wrists Linda MegtheEgg86 08-16-2023, 07:42 PM I'll throw one out that doesn't really get talked about all that much at all but still gives me the willies: Tim Barry. There's no real discernible motive for why Barry killed his sister-in-law. Stack somewhat off-handedly mentions Barry actually had been court martialed for murdering another soldier when he was in the Army, but had been acquitted. The actor who portrays him is creepy AF. The guy WALKED OUT OF THE WOODS into a backyard a year after escaping from prison and then just walked back in them to disappear for another four years. Had I seen this when it originally aired I would've stayed awake for a month knowing he could just walk out of the woods somewhere again. MegtheEgg86 08-16-2023, 07:44 PM Tom Dixon/Gary Simmons That photo of Tom Dixon always makes me uneasy. MegtheEgg86 08-16-2023, 07:47 PM 2) this female friend talking in disguise in darkness with a scary voice distortion. Now THAT distorted voice interview made me ROLL. thick Texas accent: "and I was like OH LORD..":lol::lol: DALLASTEXAN!! 08-17-2023, 12:34 AM Alan Mann segment haha, I would have been fine with my girlfriend getting "possessed" jets4life 08-17-2023, 07:45 AM The case in Virginia (?) where a Woman in a rural area was abducted by a man claiming to be lost and needing directions. He then abducted her, raped her, killed her, placed her body in a freezer for a few days, and then tied her to a tree in the woods a few days later, where a hunter eventually discovered the body. Unsure of the name of the victim. She was in her early 60s IIRC. James T 08-17-2023, 07:56 AM The scary looking guy stabbing Jane & then when she got to her friends house him staring at her from his vehicle. Creepy photo-fit & the guy playing him exuded real menace. ghosthouse 08-17-2023, 08:13 AM The case in Virginia (?) where a Woman in a rural area was abducted by a man claiming to be lost and needing directions. Did UM use a dummy or a real lady tied to a tree? I would assume a dummy or mannequin? jets4life 08-19-2023, 03:09 AM Did UM use a dummy or a real lady tied to a tree? I would assume a dummy or mannequin? Probably a mannequin. Definitely not a person. What is interesting, is I read the same hunter who found the body was used in the reenactment on the segment. legallydead 08-19-2023, 09:50 AM Debbie, the lady who was abducted and then shot and left for dead in the woods. one time i had taken an edible and this segment came on and i've never been so freaked out in my life- the slo-mo chase/abductor yelling at her all distorted...yeah never doing that again lol my creepiest segment is the boston rapist, which isn't on the filmrise versions but a grainy version is on youtube. the guy walked into a strip mall doctors office on xmas eve and raped a nurse. the whole reenactment is absolutely chilling. WishfulDreamer 08-20-2023, 03:03 PM The Deborah Poe segment, and it's even worse when you realize how much UM left out. Shortly before Deborah vanished, a naked man had chased her throughout the store. DALLASTEXAN!! 08-20-2023, 03:09 PM As a kid in 1989 I was 6 and I saw the "Carol" segment and I think the Kevin Hughes segment. Both of those scared the bejesus out of me. The carol segment may not seem that scary, but at the time I had no idea what I was watching and UM really set that segment up, especially with the music that they used leading up to the shooting. I can't even watch the Kevin Hughes segment anymore because it is so upsetting. DALLASTEXAN!! 08-20-2023, 03:13 PM The Deborah Poe segment, and it's even worse when you realize how much UM left out. WishfulDreamer 08-20-2023, 04:04 PM wow, I never knew that! https://charleyproject.org/case/deborah-deann-poe I know Charley Project can be wrong, but I've seen other articles mention the incident as well. Right out of a horror movie, being chased around a store by a naked guy in the middle of the night and having him climb over the counter to get to her. Kevin Hughes was the first segment I ever remember being aware of and it scared me to death largely because it happened in Tennessee. Nevermind that it went down in Nashville, over a hundred miles from my childhood home. In my kid brain, I thought the killer could be right around the corner at any time. Nevermind that it went down in Nashville, over a hundred miles from my childhood home. In my kid brain, I thought the killer could be right around the corner at any time. I can only imagine how much more terrifying that it would have been if it was that close to where I lived. Now when I watch the Kevin Hughes segment I am still creeped out by the segment as it builds to the reenactment of his murder, but I am far more gutted by the fact that by all accounts Kevin was a person of immense integrity who was trying to have a positive impact on music. TheCafeDisco 08-20-2023, 05:52 PM Debbie, the lady who was abducted and then shot and left for dead in the woods. Agreed. Even as an adult, everytime I rewatch this segment it makes the hair on my arms stand up straight. When the actor playing the rapist begins screaming "WHERE YOU GOING!?" I get the chills. What a horrifying experience "Debbie" was put through. dynoguy88 08-20-2023, 07:14 PM Agreed. Even as an adult, everytime I rewatch this segment it makes the hair on my arms stand up straight. When the actor playing the rapist begins screaming "WHERE YOU GOING!?" I get the chills. What a horrifying experience "Debbie" was put through. That reenactment is terrifying, yes. I think it's the only time they filmed in that style where the action is choppy, kind of like still photos being played frantically...forgive me, there's probably an actual name for that style that I just don't know. Plus, the way they distort the attacker's voice, making him sound like a demon from hell. Yeesh. To piggyback off the filming style Unsolved Mysteries used, I always loved how often they filmed creepy moments from a distance. How something can look much more scary when you're seeing it from a farther distance as opposed to close up, like these moments.... https://i.imgflip.com/btj8f.gif https://i.imgflip.com/btjtv.gif https://i.imgflip.com/btk73.gif https://i.imgflip.com/btkat.gif https://i.imgflip.com/bun3v.gif WishfulDreamer 08-20-2023, 07:39 PM Because it's the last gif you posted, I have to mention again how brilliantly done the Brad Bishop segment was. We didn't need to see a reenactment of the crime. It was enough to simply see him walk toward the house with the murder weapon and the police officer later looking horrified at what he was seeing inside the home. MegtheEgg86 08-20-2023, 10:37 PM There are very few things on UM anymore I have to look away from if say, I'm watching it late at night home alone, but Patricia Meehan standing in that field is one of them. TheCars1986 08-21-2023, 08:16 AM It's a very underrated and not discussed segment, but I had forgotten at how creepy the Lucie Turmel segment was. The high speed chase where the killer is actually trapped on a dead end street and then he just takes off into the woods. Nightmare fuel. Hambone2421 08-21-2023, 01:04 PM The Signal Mountain Murders had some creepy parts to it. As did the Phillip Fraser one. But the one segment that was creepy AF the entire time (at least to me) was the Beverly McGowan segment. The entire situation creeped me out. Even moreso when they showed the actual police footage of them entering her apartment and seeing how it was left. SPD Yellow 09-01-2023, 10:40 PM The Blind River Rest Stop case remains my “Nope, can’t even!” segment. It does show that for all of UM’s silliness, they could direct a damn good low-budget horror short. It’s not helped by the fact you can see the raw pain carved on Gord McCallister’s face, especially when he says he wishes he’d died that night with his wife. I know there’s no real such thing as closure, but I always hoped he was able to know some happiness in the years following the crime. I also hope that he found happiness after that horrific event. he was fortunate to survive and it is so difficult for survivors to recover from those type of crimes. if anyone deserves to be happy it would be Gord. definitely blind river is up there with any segment. the reenactment was so chilling. the "I'm gonna rob you then I'm going to kill you" line is one of the most morbid lines I've ever heard. It is definitely one of the scariest segments. The part where Gord leaps from the RV and then has the idea to roll under it to hide, only to be saved because another person drives into the rest stop (becoming a victim to the killer)...it's just a terrifying experience to watch in a reenactment. I can't even imagine how Gord felt. The whole time, he was hoping desperately to find help for his wife, too, with the hope that she had survived her wound. I'd also add that the Boston Rapist segment is right up there as creepiest. I've mentioned in other threads that the actor in that one was phenomenally chilling, with how calm and callous he was the whole time. It's a really difficult watch. Both of these segments have an uncaught/unidentified perpetrator, only compounding the creepiness. DALLASTEXAN!! 09-03-2023, 04:06 PM It is definitely one of the scariest segments. Janel "Jaycee" Miller 09-11-2023, 02:13 PM I don't know if this qualifies as being creepy, but the Jean Marie Gagnon and Louis Bourgeois segment, particularly when one of those men tried to jump into a woman's car but could not because the door was locked, probably made me realize when I saw the segment at the ripe old age of about 13 the importance of locking all vehicle doors at all times. scarfish 09-11-2023, 06:59 PM Agreed. Especially the ominous low hum music during the end part. Eileen Mangold is creepy. And Rick Church just skulking around in the night. Janel "Jaycee" Miller 09-12-2023, 04:50 AM I thought of a more creepy one. How about when the son of Dorothy Donovan sees her killer walking towards her house? Or when Clarence Roberts pops out of nowhere to watch a fire from the distance? bigted12 09-14-2023, 12:37 PM The black hope curse segment always seemed the most creepy to me, i don't even believe in ghosts and these things but based on everything i've read about the case there has to be some level of truth to it, these families really did abandon their homes and they got sick. Corkys-Place 09-23-2023, 01:55 AM Or when Clarence Roberts pops out of nowhere to watch a fire from the distance? I'm not sure it was necessary for the reenactment to show Brian Majors failing to get his started as the killer points the gun at his windshield. The story is terrifying on its own and I feel like UM wanted to crank up the scary past 100. Gord McCallister's interview was one of the saddest and heartbreaking in the show's history. Especially the part where he said that he didn't care if the killer tried to locate him. He had already lost the most important person in his life in such a horrific way. In his mind, nothing could be worse for him at that point. sharonite 09-24-2023, 05:13 PM The black hope curse segment always seemed the most creepy to me, i don't even believe in ghosts and these things but based on everything i've read about the case there has to be some level of truth to it, these families really did abandon their homes and they got sick. Sorry, but Black Hope is probably second only to Lake Wales as the show’s most ridiculous “haunting” segment. I mean, voices of slaves coming out of the toilet? Someone here posted a hilarious rant about this segment that boiled down to (paraphrasing) “Bored people in an exclusive subdivision didn’t have any black people nearby to blame for their problems, so they found some long-dead black people to blame instead.” I suspect that the home abandonments, lawsuits against the developer, etc. were about money more than anything else. schmave 09-26-2023, 11:01 AM The black hope curse segment always seemed the most creepy to me, i don't even believe in ghosts and these things but based on everything i've read about the case there has to be some level of truth to it, these families really did abandon their homes and they got sick. I felt so sorry for the people in that segment, especially those who lost their daughter so suddenly. They didn't do anything wrong. I remember that rant sharonite. One of the dumbest things I've ever read on this site. Hambone2421 09-27-2023, 09:18 AM Gord McCallister's interview was one of the saddest and heartbreaking in the show's history. That poor man. sharonite 09-30-2023, 03:05 PM I felt so sorry for the people in that segment, especially those who lost their daughter so suddenly. I felt badly for them too (who wouldn't?) but the daughter had what we would now call "pre-existing conditions," including cancer and an infection of the heart muscle. It seems likely that those conditions were the cause of her sudden death, not the malevolent ghosts of enslaved people. sadwafflez 10-02-2023, 09:24 PM the one about the young boys who were locked inside a shed and burned alive. TheCars1986 10-10-2023, 07:30 AM Does anyone have a kink to the infamous Elizabeth Campbell PURSE UPDATE? Nope, not for me. I do not kink shame, however. UMFan1981 11-03-2023, 08:32 AM I'm sure I'll miss a few and I can't remember the names of a few of the cases or the people involved: (1) The Blind River killings. Everything about that segment was so creepy, chilling and frightening. Also, so heartbreaking for Gord McAllister. My heart really broke for him. I hope against hope justice can be done one day (2) Can't remember the name of that case but that teenaged girl who woke up all tied up and phoned her mother claiming she had no memory of anything, then a few days later started having flashbacks of the alleged home invasion in which she'd been injured. Now, I don't believe much of what she said took place in that story actually happened, at least in the way she said it did (there are too many holes, gaps, inconsistencies) but the UM reenactment of the whole home invasion was just so frightening to me. It was perhaps compounded by the fact that a home invasion used to be my worst nightmare when I was home alone, so perhaps the reenactment spoke to my fears a little too effectively. (3) The whole La Cruces bowling alley massacre was very horrific and frightening in its own right. Beginning in that scene where that woman was working in the kitchen and suddenly this armed gunman confronts her and starts speaking in Spanish and going right through to the horrific end, that was really chilling. Another one where I hope justice is done one day. (4) The Dana Satterfield murder. The whole thing is chilling, but the scene where that saleswoman who saw Dana Satterfield earlier in the day is waiting outside her salon late at night and the killer suddenly jumps out from the salon and just looks at her just sends chills up my spine. |
