Before her tragic death in 1979 R&B singer Minnie Riperton got the chance to perform a commercial jingle for Dial Soap in a commercial also from 1979 and this is her only commercial she did. While Minnie Riperton herself is not featured in the commercial Dial Soap was sure smart to have her perform their jingle. I have been a fan of Minnie Riperton since I first heard Lovin' You and she was such a talented singer that deserved to go far. I wonder if Minnie Riperton was still alive today would she have done more commercials?

I was stationed in Alaska when she died at the tender age of 31. As I recall, she did a PSA on beating breast cancer. Sadly she thought she had it licked. We miss your classic voice, Minnie. :(

I just viewed the Dial ad on YouTube. There’s discussion as to whether that was really her voice. No reason to doubt; to win customers for Dial, she may have been asked to tone down her multi-octave talent. Shrug.

She also charted on adult-contemporary charts, very low rungs, with a song called “Simple Things” which I love. It should be on YouTube.
