Here's how Irene Ryan had all the energy she needed to become America's most beloved shotgun-carrying granny.
What caught my attention in that article was Irene Ryan saying she did vaudeville routines with Max Baer Jr. and Donna Douglas at fairs and rodeos. I'm guessing this was probably during the show's run, but it could have been later. For some reason I never thought about them doing personal appearances, but it makes sense that they did.
This isn't quite the same as energy, but in the last episode I saw (the one with Mr. Universe), Elly says that according to granny, the reason the family is so strong is because of the food they eat - the hog jowls, grits, and other hill food. So that is apparently the source of the Clampetts' "super powers", sort of like Popeye's spinach. As much food as Jethro takes in, it probably does fuel something supernatural.
