When it comes to competition and rivalry, Bruce Lee wrote about the 6 diseases that stem for the desire of having to win at all costs. In this video, I thought it’d be interesting and funny to illustrate how these various diseases play out in different episodes of Seinfeld.

The 6 diseases rely on being in competition, which is typically where we go in a relationship the moment any discord pops up. When we relate to others in these ways, we are disconnecting from them and disconnecting from our true selves in order to access some form of outside validation. In other words, there is no relationship, no collaboration, no cocreation.

Chapters:

01:08 - The Desire for Victory (Seinfeld Season 8, Episode 17 “The English Patient”)
03:47 – The Desire to resort to Technical Cunning (Seinfeld Season 8, Episode 13 “The Comeback”)
06:13 – The Desire to display all that has been learned (Seinfeld S6, Ep 1 “The Chaperone”)
08:28 – The Desire to Awe the Enemy (Seinfeld Season 5, Episode 22 “The Opposite”)
11:38 – The Desire to Play the Passive Role (Seinfeld Season 5, Episode 9 “The Masseuse”)
14:37 – The Desire to Rid oneself of whatever disease one is affected By
(Seinfeld S4, Ep 13 “The Pick”)

These 6 diseases are traps, they will keep you locked in isolation and stagnate your growth.

They will keep your success outside of yourself and out of your hands as you chase victory and validation through the eyes of someone else; but this is something we all experience and go through; it’s part of being human. But these diseases will keep you from being fully yourself because attachment to outcome is denial of one’s true commitment to self.
