Did you know there was The New Andy Griffith Show (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Andy_Griffith_Show) in 1971 (http://www.tvtango.com/series/new_andy_griffith_show)? The first episode had Barney, Goober and even Emmett. You can watch clips from that show here and also discover why it only lasted 4 months!

The existence of this series makes no sense. Here's CBS just a couple of months away from cancelling The Beverly Hillbillies, Hee-Haw, Green Acres, The Jim Nabors Show, Mayberry RFD and the network greenlights a rural show! The show was thrown together on the fly as a midseason replacement for Headmaster. A show put together that quickly was almost sure to fail under the best of circumstances but add to that the fact that it was exactly the type of show CBS was trying to get away from, why throw good money after bad. They should have told Griffith to go out and hire someone who might be able to fix the Headmaster scripts and finish the season up.

I have wondered if the network might have been hoping Andy might consider recruiting Don for the new series, he could have played the Deputy Mayor.
